    Egg ....

    Don't like your chances.

I think they should be liable for huge potholes.
Many years ago my father ran over a pothole that damaged all four rims on a stock Volvo in Nerang, was so bad all tyres lost pressure and went flat straight away. (I'm talking a one foot deep pothole here)
He tried to get compensated but pretty much gave up in the end... perhaps times have changed.
I think you would have to sue the council?... don't like your chances. :(

    Russ,

I have ahad a few incident claims come through work before.

Depends on the profile of the tyres, just as much cushioning as on an 18" rim. 285/30/18 will have the same cushioning as 285/30/19.

    A Few Pics!!!!

I went back to the scene first thing this morning to take a closer look at the road in the daylight!.......and take some pics!

    My first impressions were incorrect!

Although the pot hole was directly in front of the entrance to the construction site.......in the daylight it was clear to see that this had nothing to do with the road damage!........it's just purely wear & tear! ..........plus I'm guessing all the rain we have been having here in Melbourne lately has probably got a lot to do with the poor condition of the road surface!!

I also thought I was still on the outside curve of the bend as you leave the roundabout when I hit the bloody thing!..........but it was actually a little further along the road on the inside curve!

Anyway here is the 'not so little' bastard!

and the damaged it caused to my new rim :mad:

I happened to get quite a few shots of car after car hitting the bloody thing!

Which will come in handy because I rang the VicRoads 24hour hotline for reporting unsafe road conditions and made sure they logged a record of the phone call, my details & a summary of the possible damage to my car!

Luckily this section of road is under VicRoads jurisdiction ......so the guy I spoke with on the phone said they would have someone take a look at the road immediately!.......& then send me out a claim form asap!

So there may be some chance of getting some compensation for this damage yet!!

Keep ya fingers crossed for me!..........I'll keep ya posted!

    I would have but.......

this occurred afterhours at night!........so anyone concerned with the construction site had been long gone by then!

Turns out when I took a look in the daylight this morning that they are not a fault anyway! .......so it's probably a good thing I didn't go in there with steam pouring out of my ears when it happened!:eek:;)

Somehow I knew you'd have wheels that are too big, tyres that are too low profile and stretched to buggery! lol

The damage to your wheel isn't even half bad though. Just wait for 12 months, you'll have gutter rash up the wahzoo with wheels/tyres like that and it'll make this ding seem like nothing. :)

    you forgot to add........

a stereo that is too loud, windows that are too dark, an exhaust system that is too noisy, suspension that is too low, the lists goes on!

Somehow I knew you must be an old fart with a smart ass comment like that! lol ;) :p:p

It's not a smart ass comment, it's truth. Dont take my word for it, just check out your wheels in a years time. They'll be scuffed up to shit I promise you. Infact just follow me around some twisties for a few hours, I'll probably be able to get them to scuff up for you by that alone if you try your hardest to keep up! lol

Those tyres are stretched like hell, and that pot hole aint even bad.

The subgrade has failed, thats not patch-able (their probably putting off the fix till the rest of the road needs doing) it will keep failing like that every time it rains if they patch it. They need to rip up that section completly and replace it all. So yeah a vic roads issue.

You need to get some wider rubber on those wheels mate. No protection for the edge of the rim at all. You could get another 20-40mm of tread width and still be within recommended size.

And that pothole doesn't look that bad. Take a drive down parramatta road...it's a freaking fire trail.

Good to hear you've logged it with VicRoads...On my way back from Bendigo on the weekend, I was coming over a crest in the freeway and there was a falcon with its hazards on the LHS stopped in the rain...nothing seemed wrong so I assumed they had missed a turn or something...as I continued along I saw a MASSIVE pothole in the road (it looks like it could have been 6cm deep or more!) and a little further up the road was a falcon ute, and it had MASSIVE front end bottom damage!!

It looks as though the car had hit the pothole, ripping the tyre off the rim and making the front of the car hit the ground!!

Was great of the car who was presumably following to sit back and put the hazards on to make people alert to the possibilty of something wrong!

Reason for this story....regardless of what sized rims Russ has, the conditions of roads are important, at minimum, he has saved other people in the future having similar issues if the road worsens....at best he can recover the cost of the damage to his car as well...

Recently when Hitek Bob and Lindsay from Z shop where coming back from ballarat with a car they had just picked up.

Bob was coming through the big cutting near Baccus Marsh. Hit a HUGE pot hole as he was coming around the corner. Big enough to roll the Skyline he was in.

Wrote the car off and left Bob with a neck brace for 6 weeks.

Apprently there was a falcon further up the road with half the front destroyed.
