Hi ZX crew ;} New to your forum today but not new to the site as it help me buy my new car 1 week ago... ;} (1990 Import 2+2 Targa Manual ) I needed a car with cruise control as I do alot of k's on the highway but unfortuatly it does not work ,..... Being a new ZX owner i don't know if the car must have the cruise control steering wheel? ( as mine does not) If you can help it would be much appreciated Oh and thx for the Tech tip on how to disengage the warning chime for the speedo on the import models ( It was like a dentist drill ) Thanx Trent
Welcome Cruise control was an option on manuals so you will have to do a conversion/reto-fit. Hardest part is acquiring all the control parts. Contact CRESTA before John closes down and post in WANTED section.
Thanks for the quick responce Hi K-Zed You seem to be a wealth of knowledge and thx for the quick response!!! I have owned manys car from holdens to porsches and have to say the Z is one of the most enjoyable and confidence inspiring cars to drive :} My car has the cruise control on the instrument panel so atleast i can start there...... Thx again Trent
CRESTA Forum nick for John @ Cresta Auto Spares in Brissie. If you have all ASCD parts except steering wheel you can always use aftermarket wheel as alternative.
ASCD parts Sorry K-Zed I'm still a bit green when it comes to Zeds ....how would i find out if I have all the ASCD parts?
Downloaded manual Just downloaded the Z workshop manual so i wil have a look under the hood and see if the ASCD conponents are installed.............. Can't see how i would only be missing the steering wheel but fingers crossed Thx mate
aftermarket steering wheel? try the buttons that let you engage cruise control. there is one on the clutch, and 2 on the brake. common to break on z31, though both mine broke on my z32... http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=268124 after that you might want to look at the tech section under cruise control. there could be a number of reasons its not working. word of warning though, dont take it to nissan to look, they are pretty useless with this sort of thing, they charged me $600 on my old car and couldnt understand why it wouldnt work.
Will do ;} Thx zac_du_preez I have been i contact with Nissan Aust. they don't seem to want to help anyone with an import Thanks for the tips TD
yeah you're right Nissan Aust dont really want to know anything about these cars. My local Nissan dealer/workshop wouldnt look at mine even when I pointed out that there were NA's released in Aus. They can be real @%$holes sometimes. just my little dummy spit for the night :bash:
Hi trentdaniell Be prepared to tear your hair out with this problem. The tech section on aus300 forum is pretty thin on ASCD problems and the search is also a problem with your issue (which is mine). Even though all the diags work my cruise control refuses to go. It seems I have a problem with incompatibility between a series two ASCD with a series one CPU. This may not be your problem but I hope that when you find a solution to your problem that you post it up on the forum. :bash:
Worst comes to Worst, you can get an aftermarket cruise control from Super cheap auto for about $200. Take about 2 hours to fit. I've done 4 now, including one on Tammy's R33. One thing to consider if your Z is turbo, you will require a vacuum motor to operate the C/Control (If your Z is short that part under the bonnet). You need the vacuum motor, as the Zed manifold is not always under vacuum when 2 turbos are strapped on, and the cruises need vacuum to operate the diaphragm and throttle cable mechanism.
Have you worked out if you have all the cruise control bits (except for the steering wheel)?? If its *just* the steering wheel you are missing, you can replicate the Set/Acc, Cancel and Res/Dec buttons with 2 momentary pushbutton switches which you can get from Jaycar/Dicksmith etc. Just mount them on the top of the steering column cover and then you can use CC with 1 button for Set/Acc, the other button for Res/Dec and if you press both together it cancels it I've done this on my last two Nissans, which both had aftermarket steering wheels
vacuum motor... where is this vacuum motor?? My car is an NA 5 speed with cruise..... when I convert to TT, I assume I will need this vacuum motor.... or does the NA already have it? Cheers
auto to manual?? do you know if your car began life as an auto?? I bought my car as 5 speed, Jspec, NA. It came with all the cruise control equipment, but the cruise didnt work. I later discovered (by checking the chassis number and also finding some left over auto computers) that my car began life as an auto and was converted to manual by the previous owner. However, he had not bothered to get the cruise working with the new manual setup which required an extra switch under the clutch pedal.... So if you have all the cruise system there, but it still wont work, investigate if your car began life as an auto.... Cheers
Never looked in the NA engine bay to confrim that one. I guess, just follow the vacuum line from the actuator (The round box that has the cable that runs to the throttle arm) back, and it will lead you to the vacuum source, either a motor that generates vacuum, or to the plenum somewhere.
Judging by the parts that i got (not sure if it was from an NA or Turbo), the actuator and pump are mounted on the one bracket, and look like a single unit (the vaccuum hose from the pump to the actuator is about 7cm long) The whole circuit is not that complicated, Someone has posted links to the circuit diagrams on here before (this is all for the Series one ASCD - no idea about series 2!): Top right on this diagram http://users.tpg.com.au/adslye2x/cir...gram gif.gif Note the pin numbers are NOT the same as what is shown on this diagram. The actual order is more like Code: | 2| 1| X| 9| 3|10|13|12| |11| 7| X| X| 5| 4| 8| X| (looking at the ECU, X means an unused wire) Then there are these diagrams http://300zx-twinturbo.com/manual/el/99.gif http://300zx-twinturbo.com/manual/el/100.gif http://300zx-twinturbo.com/manual/el/101.gif Probably a good idea to just start here and print off all the pages for the ASCD info. Some are not quite clear enough though http://300zx-twinturbo.com/cgi-bin/...0&cycle=off&slide=99&design=default&total=133
My turn ;} Called Nissan Noosa about door moulds today and they wanted to charge me $220 for only 1 mould ( righthand side) Crazy when you can get most of the exterior moulds for around $600-$700 mmmm That feels better haha Will not be calling them again !!!! TD
