its there to stop water and dust and crap getting all over your electronics
i say theres a better way to get your car to run cooler than taking that off,do you have an overheating problem ????

I dont have an underbody tray due to aftermarket frontbar. My temps are very low. Normally around 74 to 76ish degrees.

Just get an aluminium underbody tray thats tapered or angled at the end so it PULLS air and pushes out the back of the engine onto the road

    red32 You talkin' to me?

I've got one of Zed-4-Life's temperature warning devices fitted and the only time it has come on under normal circumstances is when I had both undertrays temporarily removed. It did come on one other time... the day it was fitted, but that was in bumper-to-bumper traffic and the ambient was 42.

I would definately be running the undertrays. I lost my rear one on a dead roo, but will be making a new one from ally.

    Cooler with

Otherwise air will go under the car also creating lift. The main reason for this peice is to force air through the radiator as air will go to it's easiest path and radiator and condensor is not so easy to go through, also to protect the condensor from rocks.

I dont have one and it shows too - dust/pebbles/leaves get caught - big problem. Since I dont have 1 I would love an ally cover but dont know how to go about doing it.

I saw someone suggest to make in inlet and outlet slits - hmmm interesting.

there are many shops that do it you just need to purchase some aluminium sheeting say 2x2m or there abouts from a metalsmith or engineering joint, maybe even a large hardware store. take it to an panel shop they should be able to cut and bend it to fit and find some suitable holes to screw it in place

dont know labour costs but im guessing if you buy the aluminium yourself no more than $100-150

n.b. you want the back bent at an angle pointing towards the ground to accelerate the air after its gone through the radiator etc

    like so

...def put back on, helps for storage too. I'm now the proud owner of a new tennis ball.

Spent a good minute or two looking for a tennis ball lodged under my car after i ran over the bouncing ball and didn't see it pop out the back. After scratching my head like a dumb monkey i found it sitting happily on top of the under body shelf. For some reason the guy in the tennis court expected it back... hells no!

I've seen instances when cars without these have had their pod filters and AFMs fall off and smashed.

    lol - finder's keepers, hey? ;)

You may be able to find some on a wrecked Z - not in good condition if it was stolen and driven over all sorts of crap, but maybe a Z that's had a dead engine or accident may still have the underbody trays in decent nick. Look in Zed Parts For Sale, as many people are parting out their cars and might have them in your area (would be expensive to post, but might be worth it).

EDIT: Oh, see you said you do have one, just not installed. Put it back on, or better yet get a cool aluminium one made. Oh well, may be useful for someone to read... *shrug*

I'm sure I posted pic's of my alloy one, perhaps in the Koyo, shroud, fan thread. Cost $5, a few hours measuring, cutting, drilling. Looks cool, but it's a bitch to polish. Had to make one cause the original ( which is in my storeroom) wouldn't fit with the FMIC. Hmm, maybe thats the thread the pic's in:confused:  . Yeah I remember now, it bolts to the bottom of the FMIC, back and across to where the original sits. I'll look for the pic

Just looked, it's in the Koyo/shroud/thermo fan assy thread about two thirds down, starts with " Just finished". I don't know how to link it to this thread:D
