    Now I've had the car for a few months, time came to replace the original Jap radio. As it hardly gets driven, all I had planned for now was to replace the deck so I at least had something to listen to (hell, anything sounds better than my singing!) :biggrin:
    So anyway, I trudge over to the car stereo shop along with my 'discount card' (Clara) ;) and end up walking away with a deck, amp, sub and a pair of Kicker splits!
    I fitted the splits and the deck - no problems there.
    I then realised that the rear 6x4 speakers were cactus, so after searching through the shed I found some old Alpine 6x9's. I now had these and a Pioneer sub to install. I was going to build a temporary basic box to mount them in, but I thought I'd try doing some fibreglass work. Having never touched the stuff before, it was all really trial and error...
    I'm no spray painter either, but I added a splash of colour to them to finish them off but I'll be re-spraying the sub-box...there's more 'orange peel' in it than a jar of Marmalade!! :eek:
    I'm amazed at the overall sound of the system considering it only cost me around 700 bux! (and yes, the rear window does flex somewhat from the sub-woofer! :cool: )
    It's not finished yet, but you'll get the idea.....

    Nice setup there, personally I'd probably upholster them so they match the interior better but regardless I bet they sound shaweet!

    Yep! and that's including the new Sony CDX-GT460U deck, amp, splits, plus everything you see in the boot! Everything else like the MDF, paint, etc. I already had laying around in the workshop.

    That would be one of the better looking subs I've seen. Can't comment on the sound. Did you do any calculations on the open air setup ?

    seems a very big box for what looks like a 12" sub..

    nice design though

    I cut a 'donut' out of some MDF using a router then raided the back of Clara's car and stole her speaker cloth from her sub!! :biggrin:

    I used a woofer box design program, punched in the spec's of the speaker which gave me a total literage of 60. Then I designed the box around that in AutoCAD until I got the shape I was after;

    Nice work Dave, came together well in the end. How does it sound?

    BTW is literage a word? :p

    do you remember how many square metres of fobreglass you used and how many layers? I'm hoping to make a fibreglass box but wasn't sure about how many square meters i'd need, don't wanna run out.
