Why would you ask how to get to the instrument pod if you've already done it once before to install the white faced dials?

That was my first thought too :D

The reason your speedo dial is likely sluggish, is most likely that the needle, or the centre of the needle (the round bit in the centre) is probably rubbing on the new guage faces. You may need to carefully pull the needle a little further off the splined shaft.

My tacho did similar when I installed mine
I just used a jewlers screwdriver to move the needle away from the face, being careful not to pry it off in the process.

you will need to pull the needle shaft out a little until the movement has been corrected. the circuit is sensitive as to the height the shaft is installed.

    Speedo

I recently had the same issue, I played around with it so many times testing pulling it out a little making it looser, etc and still its got lag, I simply gave up but eventually gets to the correct speed, you will find that most people have the same problem, I believe its the resistor not able to keep up or the mechanism maybe a little damaged but managed to get it working, I tried many times, bloodly annoying, its all good , I have a APEXI Control booster linked to the ECU as well as a GPS tracker that has correct speed

    unfortunately if you had trouble

getting the speedo needle off and had to pull hard on it this will often damage the speedo mechanism and no amount of work will fix. Once the shaft is bent, it is near impossible to straighten it... I have probably done at least twenty of these and had two disasters. I replaced both speedo units (at my cost) from Cresta.

The best advice if doing these is to remove the speedo needle very gently with a small fork (so as to apply equal pressure on both sides of the needle) :zlove:

Actually incorrect Mark, mine was difficult and had slow points and was sticky and what not once the needle was back on and it was fixed, once the needle is back on you may notice that how far out the needle sits is what causes the slow/sticky points, so a bead placed on the shaft pushed the needle out far enough to get it to stay at one of the points where it was not sticky, my speedo has had no probs in the month or so since the 300km install, was fixed and installed by z-ster

Byron. I understand what you are saying

about the needle position on the shaft. The 18 or so I've done this exact same way as you describe and with no problems at all.

The other two had needles that seems to have been superglued on and no amount of normal force would remove the speedo needle. Applying sufficient leverage to get the needles off bent the shafts. If the shaft is bent there is minimal chance of getting it true again.

Yes, I could get both of them to *work* again by reinstalling the needle at a certain height etc and a drive test with Datascan speed sensor verified the speedo's were calibrated correctly (Which I always do), but I didn't want to be the cause of those two owners getting a speeding ticket from a slow speedo down the track.
