It seems a typical conception that a 2JZ is a stronger engine than the VG30DETT...

i would only ever bother with a Mk 3 supra...

the mk4 are big fat and ugly.. built for ppl that cant fit into Ferraris and Vipers and Zeds!

yes a 2jz will b nice... toyotas make brilliant inline 6 motors.. the only issue with a 2jz is the STD turbo setup is totally crap and u need big bucks for a big single turbo upgrade.

two of my mates have mk 3 supras.. this model have a lot in common with the zed... the zed was based on the Corvette and the Mk3 supra from the same era was based on the Trans AM... The zed is a betta car no doubt but i can appreciate some aspects of the toyota... 1 of the supra is a wide body and has the older 3.0L twin cam 7M-GTE with well over 300 at the wheels and the other mK3 has the narrow body with a 2L twin cam 1G-GTE nearly got it to 200 at the bags with stock turbos. The narrow body version is great for drifting as its more agile with the weight loss and distribution.

Its amazing on the street here in AUS its all NISSAN vs Toyota but in F1 its all HONDA vs TOYOTA.. i guess we need to follow RENAULT f1..

its good competition here in aus... I like to thing all the Jap car drivers are on the same team... vs the v8s.. There aint a betta felling than beating a stinker!

a lil off the topic.. :zlove:

I think you are doing a comparison with the wrong engine

The RB26 is the best engine Nissan has ever put into a car, better than any of the VG30 series, yet the toyota engine that most of the Japanese,American,(even Martin Donnon)tuners and experts rate as it's equal is the 1JZ, more power, more torque, stronger all round .

The 2JZ is in a class way above anything from Nissan , Shame that Toyota put both of these engines into heavy ugly cars.

    2 J is king

2 J 4 bolt mains and heavierstronger crank and 4 bolt mains, 1 UZ V8 are 6 bolt as are the alloy V8 Nissan VGH45 awesome thing and also are very strong and very reliable. If you called a Toyota wrecker to ask if they have a 2 J in stock as need one for Supra that blew up it would almost be an April fools joke.

RB26 have lots of problems and a bit over rated and VG30 despite popular misguided opinion are more reliable when set up right. Compared to VG30 DETT RB26 DETT's regularly spin bearings, have much longer crank than VG and more prone to harmonic resonance, the R32 bust oil pumps all the time as not enough of a face of the drive flat as R33 so superseded. They have oil starvation issues and require sump baffles and oil gallery restrictors in block to prevent too much oil in head, rocker cover baffling, they also can and do crack the block.

Zeds set up right have far less issues and over all are not so reliable as they have not been serviced properly, have done way more k's than they show, and usually fail not due to motor but wiring issues or running hot due to blocked radiator or other. I regularly thrash my zed at lots of track days and push it hard and have few issues, and often have GTR's going back onto tow trucks early. RB26 also often develop air leaks as have factory paper inlet gaskets which blow out with time and boost, also throttle body butterflies have Molly paste which wears off or gets cleaned of with owners or workshops mistakenly using solvent to clean inlet of engine and wash it off, and then they hunt and idle high as they develop and air leaks. They also develop exhaust manifold leaks often as does RB25 (R33 GTS-T), and these problem are extremely rare to non existent on VG motors. These gasketscan be replaced with metal Tomei ones though.

    Owned and driven both

Z ended up with a computer system (E6K) custom cat-back, Pod, 1 bar, UD pulley and made 228kW, my supra had a turbo back exhaust and one turbo making too much bad noise and made 209kW same dyno same operator.

Dont know about Torque, supra seemed to have much more pulling beautifully from 50kph even in 6th gear.

That said I miss my Z and the supra was no where near as much fun to drive, plainly made me un-happy, although these days im getting around in a 32 GTR and its the best car ive ever driven, looking forward to getting another Z one day though :zlove:

what is it about the 32GTR that u rate so highly?

Well mine has a few tasteful upgrades, mainly in the suspension dept, coilovers, upper lower control arms, ect its been quite well done. its the most beautiful work of art tuned length exhaust system and looks to have a seperate path for the wastegate, its chipped with something but running like a dream, and boost is 1 bar.

I love their intense surge of power which seems so different to anything else Ive been in/driven, throttle response is amazing, I actually find that they are quite torquey, I thought they would be Z like (slugs if caught in the wrong gear) but it can pull quite nicely from any gear at any speed which was a huge surprise, and its a great car in the wet, if you plant your foot too hard even at speed the torque gauge gives a little flicker and your back on track, its just confidence inspiring. and of course knowing that you are in a bathurst dominator is a bit of an ego trip hehe.

Ego is a huge thing when it comes to traffic light grand prix too, ive heard from the car next to me heaps of times people saying "damn dude its a real GTR, dont even bother" hehe ricers leave you alone, the amount of respect for the car is amazing kind of makes you feel like royalty. :p

    hahhaa
that traffic light respect thing is pretty cool... as much as i like the GTR, i'd rather have the Z

    :)

targa's off is a big factor - the potential of the big 3000cc is another factor - combine them together and it's ideal :zlove:

Granted the gtr is an awesome machine...but it still looks like all the other ricer 32s around... hope its not covered in hks stickers and is still stock like most skylines..... zed is the best looking car on the road... period....:) :zlove:

i get where your coming from, but im the opposite,
i dont like the way people automatically assume that
because you have a GTR that nothing is going to catch you,
which is a real misconception, in stock form anyway, at the
last dyno day i rocked up to, everyone thought i was going to lay
down under 200bhp because of how quiet and smooth my car is,
a 32 GTR pulled in, noisy and that, boasting of 400 ponies at the
wheels the crowd thought it was a awesome car, he put down
270 or so and i put down 310 , i like that air of mystery that comes
with owning a zed, on a private closed road where no laws are broken
i get guys in american muscle cars and syline gtr's who think they will dust me, get a big shock when they dont, the Gtr's are an awesome car
with unparralled handling , but i would'nt trade my Zed for one

There are people on this forum that wern't born when a Skyline last won Bathurst

, its just confidence inspiring. and of course knowing that you are in a bathurst dominator is a bit of an ego trip hehe.

No doubt it could again anytime they were allowed to run!

Well there is no doubting the looks of a Z of course :zlove: but I do like the agressive look of the R too.

And yes its a bit sad the 32 is a bit of a common machine, the GTR seems a bit rarer than the St's and REAL gtr's are a bit rarer still, seen so many st's with rolled guards and a nice fake badge on the back, even GT4's with an R sticker.

I like the fact the Z is under rated, means you get to give a bigger surprise, like you were saying with the dyno, although the Z will need bigger numbers when it comes to Traffic light GP to overcome weight, not that a Gtr is much lighter but dumping the clutch at 7000 sure is fun :p not healthy for the car.. but fun :p

No doubt 2 awesome cars by 1 awesome company :D

Jun built a Supra with a 2jz to try to break there speed record that they got in a zed, the zed achieved 419ish in 1991, the supra in 2001 only managed 401, need i say more

Well thats due to the aerodynamic shape of the Z being much better than the frumpy assed supra, I dont know if you have even driven one, but your side mirrors and literally filled with ass.
