as the topic, my zed has 0 oil showing at the gauge after the engine warm up. i think the OEM gauge is in working condition cause it does work when the engine is cold ( about 5 to 7 mark shows at the gauge). do you think the oil sender is broken or ........?????
It's a common problem I'd suggest perhaps an oil change first (or at least check the level), and then address posible sensor issues later. There are fixes that often work in the tech section
when you start the car, the oil pump pressure will be high because its gotta get the oil pumped....once the oil has been pumped and is flowing fine the pressure of the oil will be lower obviously because its not going to be pumping at the higher pressure.... it will fall to 0-2....this is fine...if you want to test it, put it in first gear, and drive it hard, you shoudl see the oil pressure to rise.... that guage is just the pressure ...
Perhaps the dipstick isn't sealing properly, and hence the low pressure. As Chad said 0-2 is normal and having just put in an after market oil sender(thanks Wess) I can tell you that after warm up my pressure is at 1 or 10psi @ idle and increases as the RPM does.
Far out dude, if you have to try and seal the dipstick to increase your oil pressure, you have far more to worry about than a failed oil pressure sender
vibration after the engine warm up, normal at around 700rpm. i can feel the engine has vibration for few second, rpm drop a little bit and oil pressure up from 0 to 2 at the same time, then back to normal idle and pressure drop back 0......
spend 1 to 2 hundreds for a oil pressure sender is not a problem, i just want to find out all the problems: unstable idle cause engine vibration low oil pressure
the sump isn't a pressurised area of the motor! if you've got pressure building up in the dipstick tube you may have worn piston rings or otherwise. lets hope this isn't the case! With my car, i had low oil press. readings on the stock guage a while ago. i did a thorough oil change and the guage now shows 2 when idling and 4 when at regular cruise speeds (between 2000-3000 rpm). these numbers are what you should be aiming for. My guess is that the oil change removed impurities or bad oil that was interfering with the oil press. sender. try an oil change first and see whether that solves the oil guage problem. can't help on the unstable idle issue i'm afraid
I have both a stock gauge and aftermarket The stock gauge will work when cold, then once the engine is warm it will sit on 0. The aftermarket gauge shows normal pressure when warm.
