If your TT takes 16 seconds at Calder then ....>>

either you can't drive or your TT has a problem. Stock NA's have recorded 15's in Aus.

    As a V8 Soarer owner...and former 300zx NA owner

I think the Zed should absolutely cream the Soarer. That's assuming the Soarer isn't very extensively modded. I don't believe the v8 was ever made as a manual. My point being - this could be quite a worked Soarer and under those circumstances the outcome could be a lot closer.

V8 Soarer is a laid back, tall geared luxury grand tourer

And heavy too, 17-1800 kg. Any zed will smash it. It's a strange choice that Toyota designed the Celsior with shorter gears and quicker off the mark, but I guess they offered the Soarer TT for the people that wanted acceleration.

    Soarer..

I didn't think they came out in V* manual anyway..
I don't really think the Soarer is designed as a Sports car,
yea it might be a 2 door, but it's all luxo barge,
the TT can be a bit pokey if tampered with, nice car though...

ITS FUNNY I OWN BOTH THOSE CARS, ZED KILLZ SOARER

I got a tt zed and that flys compared to the v8 soarer. btw yeh never heard of a v8 manual in soarer, the manual in the tt soarer is pretty rare how it is.

I agree, a V8 Soarer will not come close to a TT 300ZX

Assuming it is stock or near stock

I have even embarrassed V8 Soarer owners in my V6 Telstar TX5 which would probably be just a smidge under the performance of an NA 300ZX.

Even the TT Soarer takes a bit of work to get close to a stock TT 300ZX

    V8 Soarer's will do high 15's to mid 16's 0-400

    Mate has a Soarer TT...

My friend has a Soarer TT and it flies. He's done a little work to it though...but it definitely is no slug. I've had a couple of battles with him and off the line he takes me...but in around 3rd to 4th I overtake. Then again his car is auto and mine is manual...

He knows quite a bit about other Soarers and from memory he has said that the stock V8 version has around 175kw. The TT version is like our TT with 206kw.

The V8 version is also heavier. And in case you didn't know, the Soarer is already a very heavy car.

From what I know the V8 only came in Automatic and it was more of a luxury version. The TT had a manual option although it is EXTREMELY rare. Most Soarers you see are generally Auto.

But definitely the V8 is the slower of the two and I think it would have a hard time keeping up with a TT Zed. In terms of both power and weight, the Zed wins.

Just be sure your's is in perfect running order of course...

And yes, take it to the track. Play safe.

    Cheers
    Rob.

    Not shabby, but a tourer

My last car was a V8 soarer and it got a constant 15.6 for the quarter at 97mph. Very reliable and heavy car, quick once you got past 100kph though, from 100-180 or so it gave you a good shove. Mine was dyno run and got a 159kw at the wheels, which sounds about right as it was stock (195kw) plus exhaust.. (maybe good for 5kw).

I just ran a few g-techs on my Z though and I was getting 13.8 and 109mph as an average. A lot harder to dial in consistant times though, manual TT with exhaust, HKS intake, etc.. was either tyre smoke or clutch smoke...

Soarer: put into D, plant it. would clock within .1 sec each run.

Re: V8 Soarer is a laid back, tall geared luxury grand tourer

There are a couple of converted manual V8 Soarers around and i can tell you from experience that a manual V8 soarer tramps all over the auto one. I felt like i had the handbrake on he took off so quickly (i was in my Auto V8).

So if a stock (+exhaust) soarer can do 15.7s, i would estimate 14s for the manual one at least (not sure how that compares to a TT Z)

    Seems an unusual result

It is quite unusual for a heavier* automatic car with more turbo lag^ and less low down torque+ would be faster to 100kms but slower over that than a lighter manual with less lag and more low down torque.

If anything I would have thought the reverse would be true.

Manuals do rely heavily on your ability to get a good launch though which can reduce the consistency of the results you get.

    * TT Soarer weighs around 1600Kgs, the V8 is around 1640kgs

^The 1JZ-GTE in the Soarer TT does produce 206Kws which is the same as the 300ZX and also shares a parallel turbo setup to reduce lag (the 1JZ also uses ceramic turbo's). While this does go some way to help reduce lag the turbo's still do not spool until around 3000rpm compared to the VG30DETT which starts spooling anywhere from 2500-2800rpm

+ The 1JZ-GTE 500 fewer cc's and design produces less peak torque and at a higher rpm than the VG30DETT.

I have found the 300ZX TT to have quire remarkable low end and midrange torque, something that was even commented on my a number of friends who drive performance cars.

Also the 1UZ-FE V8 Soarer generate 191-195Kws in stock form

    Soarers and such

just a couple of extra points,

only the top model soarer v8 that has the leather and active suspension option weighs 1700kgs (a little over that)

the twin turbo base model soarer actually weighs around the same as a 2 seater 300zx TT with a targa roof (around 1550kgs)

for those that are interested in ps ratings

    1jzgte - 280ps
    vg30dett - 280ps
    1uzfe - 260ps

I have never seen anything that has supported a weight that low

Possibly a base model manual but even then I haven't seen any specs to support that, in fact 1600kgs is taken from the lowest figure I would find and is heavier than a 2+2 300ZX so they are certainly no light weight....or even middle weight for that matter..
The top spec'ed GT model tip the scales at around 1810kgs
