would it be possible to install the AWD system from the mitsushitti GTO/3000GT into our lovely beast?

    a lot of work involved?

an evo and STi killer at the lights?

    in the wet....yes...in the dry=understeer

Cant beat them in the wet, but dry weather handling is nothing to write home about without uprated suspension.

Converting the 300zx to 4wd. It would cost a furtune, and you would have loads of grip but it would also weigh a lot more and have higher friction losses. The 300zx is a faster track and slalom car than the GTO/3000GT.

suspension and the way the AWD works is what makes it handle so well

If you have driven one on windy roads, you never ever feel under/over steer, you CAN literally take corners at 80-90k's and feel in control and the same corners in your Z you would have to take at about 60-70k's. The major difference though is that you can keep accelerating through the corner in a WRX, if you did that in your Z you would most likely spin out. The constant AWD is what really makes it the way it is.

Power wise, mod a WRX all you like and a Z would probably still bust it with just bolt on mods.

    GTR

The GTR has similar suspension, rear dif to th Z. It might be easier to use the AWD stuff from a GTR.

Yeah, or just buy a GTR...

    Cos they is phat.

Apparently the 3000 GT has some kind of pnuematic diff that isn't so great.

    Not worth it....

If you want AWD seriously take my advice and buy an AWD car.

You will have to get several things custom made/ modified, right down to driveshafts and actual body (we are going to replace the rear section of the floorpan with that of an evo) and too many other things to mention.

Also if you have ever seen a GTR gearbox, they are HUGE and the driveshafts have to pass through the sump. So let the manufacturing company deal with those issues cause its a pain in the arse!

Now there is a challenge ............

I've only seen 1 3000GT on track, it was at Sandown, and it had been treated to some race type mods but it is not a "race" car, it is an enthusiasts track car - much the same as JP's is in NSW.

JP was lapping Wakefield about 9 seconds faster than me - I think his best was a 1:09.
The 3000GT was lapping Sandown about 13 seconds faster than me, but it's a longer circuit - his best was a 1:22.

I would love to see JP come down south and the slot car through a Victorian track day, at Sandown if possible, and see if he can beat the 3000GT.

Sometimes I think Z owners look at their cars through rose coloured glasses - I think a stock 3000GT TT would be a good match for a stock Z32 TT. The Z might have more going for it in terms of aftermarket go faster gear though.

AWD from GTR is very different to subaru

The atessa in GTR's is still pretty deadly, particualrly the older ones. Very different style of driving to subies

My Zed out handled by brothers WRX.

I drove quite a bit with my brother and I could out corner him without too much effort. Both cars have different handling characteristics. The WRX has quite considerable understeer so it can not enter a corner at the same speed as the Zed, but once in the corner the WRX can full throttle and maintain traction, unlike the Zed. The only time he was as fast as me through corners is when he was in front slowing me down.
In the wet though the WRX wins hands down, even with my 255's on the rear.

As for an AWD Zed, Nissan explored the possibility of putting the AWD system from the MID4 II which also ran the VG30DETT into the Z32 but it would have increased the weight and required the height to be raised by around 5cm so it was not employed in the 300ZX and went into the GTR instead.

I was looking into it seriously

My mechanic and I were looking seriously into creating an AWD 300zx, and for a while it actually looked feasable, using a GTR half cut and transplanting the engine and box into the Z, And while we found the engine would fit with out too much fuss, we found (and I dont know if im explaining this right) the rods that run off the front diff, will be at too sharp an angle for the joints connecting it all, to be able to handle any kind of power.

Anyway we scrapped the idea and I bought a GTR :D Damn that was an awesome car, until my mechanic wrote it off.

    Hey Chili ....

I've owned 4 Mister Bitchy's but only 1 Nissan. The Z hasn't completely eroded the Mitsubishi bias button yet! In fact after Christmas if I still have a job ole Cordy might be getting a heart transplant - can you say EVO?

And after watching Letterman the other night I'm adding to my repetoire of nose tricks :LOL:.

My Mister Bitchy is sitting in the back yard with a 3/4 completed VR4 transplant(engine grafted onto Cordy box,FMIC, VR4 4 spot front discs and calipers, and early Magna rear discs and calipers).
Unfortunately my Chilimobile noticed what was going on, and promptly siphoned all my available funds from my Bank Account. Zed's will do that to you!:eek::( Winning Lotto is my current fall-back position (not much success to report thus far.:( ).........ONE DAY
