    Or call me naive..
And do excuse my ignorance, but..
I want to know, what will it take in regards to modifications, to get a z run a 12 sec. 1/4 mile?

Will this be possible without touching the internals of the engine?

I have a totally stock (tt) z32, aside from an exhaust system which has been done before I bought the car..

In any case, what do I need to do to gain some additional rwkw to make such pass?

If it is possible, will the car keep its reliability?

    Thanks..

    Can be done

some of the WA guys here have done high 12's low 13's with minimal mods. One thing not to underestimate is a good set of tyres. They could be the biggest bang for buck mod you do :)

What sort of zed do you have though? A 2 seater slicktop or 4 seater targa etc.

    Oops..

Suppose I should have added that, huh.
    It's a 2+0, targa top.

The mods that I have and are sitting in my garage waiting to be installed are as follows:

    k&n pod
    greddy profec B boost controller
    gt28 turbos
    lightened underdrive pulley
    Front mount ic

A few other go-fast bits that I can't think of right now.. Having a mind block..

    Can it be done?

    Try this............

http://www.dragtimes.com/Nissan--300ZX-Drag-Racing.html Most of these posts list what mods have been done. I think for a few grand you could do low 12's or even 11's

Those mods should get you 12s if the motor is good and driven well

    Re: Oops..

Dude with that sort of gear to go on you will achieve those times easily:thumbsup: Like Shifter said, A good set of tyres will be needed to transfer all those ponies to the ground. Mate there are guys doing 12's with stock turbo's!

    Speaking of tyres..

What would a good set of tyres be?

I recently had to purchase new front tyres and went for a set of Pirelly Rossos, which were about $450 EACH..
I wanted to cut off some sort of vital organ which would help me turn my head away from such pain..
Back tyres are michellin, not sure what type..

Back tyre size: (Can't remember exactly.. I think it was)..
    295 35 18

    Front tyres
    265 40 18

The new front tyres are completly new, having had done about 100ks on them..
The bank ones will soon need replacing.

What's a good tyre to use?

    Is it even possible?

Some of these guys state they have an absolute stock car and are pushing 20psi!!

I'm scared to push mine over 10!!

Perhaps I'm being a bit too conservative?

i ran my 12 with boost, exhaust and front mount....

yeh, good tyres make a big difference... although i did my runs on fairly shagged tyres.... do a couple of mods, head down and do a few runs and then you have a good starting point....

    Re: Is it even possible?

    [opinion only] I can't see a 300 on stock internals running 20PSI.

The stock injectors would be way over 100% duty cycle IMHO.

How could the mixture be reliably controlled?

    Detonation and destruction :(

at 14PSI, my stock injectors are at 80-85% duty cycle, which I am told is as high as it should be taken.

My Z32 is in the high 13s, and would probably run low 13s once the gearbox is modified next month.

    its possible

guys in the usa are running:
stand alone ECU, IC, full exhaust, pod and 21 psi with racing fuel to run mid 11's..
however the usa 300zx has slightly larger turbos, but are ball baring just like ours, ofcourse you can change the injectors.. the turbos are capable of running up to 21 psi its just the support systems that need to be upgraded first.

however, correct me if im wrong because i often am.

    A little bit of topic

What sort of difference is there in quater mile times between automatic and manuel zeds?

I have an auto and ran a 12.9 and franz with a manual ran 12.7 >>

the only major differences being i have a front mounth and he has a tuned ECU.... from memory my zed had a higher MPH and he had a better 60foot time...

    re:

What have you done to your car to be able to run high 13s?

Just want to know, really, what people have modified, and what their car is running, and see if I can perhaps aim for something similar and know what to look forward to.

Tektrader Z32 Hoe, service me baby

    with his equipement list

and the addition of 555cc injectors and a Zemulator tune to his ECU.

He should be able to get 300 to 350 RWKW and low 12's.

20 PSI is not an issue with a stock engine provided you NEVER let it detonate.

A good carful tune is required. The boost controller he has is plenty good enough to provide a safe boost level without spiking.

Actually sounds like what is happening to my car and its transformation

    Probally a dumb question

What is the proper way to lauch of the line in an auto?

  17. RedZedMikey

RedZedMikey RZM should now be DZM

    One recommendation ...

Go to a street meeting and get some quarter mile times for your car before doing the mods. They might not be 12's, but it will give you a base to start with and you will be able to quantify what differences the improvements have made.

I have a Z with stock turbos, injectors and IC's, HKS pod and Kakimoto exhaust with standard dumps and 2¼" Hi flow cats. My first track passes with this setup at stock 9lb boost produced best times of 14.2's @ 98mph.

The first performance change was to fit a UDP and increase boost to 12lb via some boost jets, and times were lowered to a new best of 13.99 @ 101mph.

Earlier this year I bought a Kakimoto chipped ECU, and ran that with some octane booster in the tank. Instant improvement to a new best of 13.62 @ 107mph.

All this is with standard 225-50×16 street rubber, and some VERY tired looking turbos (metal missing on the vanes).

Left foot on brake, handbrake up, rev to about 3,000ish and launch

you will find flooring it doesnt always work as well as applying the "right" amount of throttle

    Thanks mate

But won't having to put the handbrake down take to long?

    lysergic PWRTRIP

No, just have your hand ready to release it as soon as you wanna go

should take less than a second
