Attached is the website for a company I used to work for. All there contact numbers are there.http://www.sdv.com/sites/sdv/corporate/default_en.aspx
There's a lot more to the costs than just the shipping.Go to www.j-spec.com.au (conflicts of interest disclaimer: this is my employer) and click on Auctions to the left, then Calculator at the top. We've imported from NZ before. You'll have to convert $NZ to yen as the calculator uses that, and add around $300 to the shipping cost, however FOB should be less from NZ but use those figures to give you an idea. What sort of car were you after? Only some can be imported.Ben
If you are buying from over there you can negotiate the consignment to be DDU which means that they pay all the freight and FOB costs to the dock over here. You pay only the duty and customs clearance costs. If they are someone who ships regularly they will be able to get a better deal for freight than you and it should work out cheaper.
Rough idea of shipping cost I bought a car in NZ last october, got a friend to check it out, it's not too dificult, buy it ,either fly over(it's cheap)find one yourself, or get someone to check it for you. Get DOTARS approval! Registration must be cancelled and plates returned (no drama) get a Customs licenced truckie to drive it onto the wharf(security reg's) that will cost probably $100. ANZ Line run a regular drive on drive off trans Tasman service, cost me $1580 including getting it off this end. Customs Fees on a car costing $5000NZ were $1419Aus plus AQIS inspection fee of $200(this included an extra $80 because the car had a bit of dirt underneath $220 for a steam and vacuum!!!Get it well cleaned in NZ.)If it's the first car you are importing ,customs will help fill out the paperwork. You don't need a customs agent,it's not difficult Car was over 15 years , so just needs engineers inspection( must comply with ADRs for year of build) and blue slip.Give it a go .Cut some of the sharks out of the loop.
