with NT4 server being hacked with Dameware Remote Control and Serv-U FTP server being uploaded to the server over permanent ADSL connection.
There here, there there, there everywhere, Didnt realise how endemic it was until I did some research.
I haven't had experience with... ...Dameware Remote Control but from my experience, Serv-U has always been a large security hole!
I think our security hole was there before they uploaded Serv-U. Have now updated all the latest patches + hotfixes and will try PestControl to see what else it comes up with.
you running adsl direct to server? perhaps u you should invest in a adsl router - they offer good protection before it hits your network - easy to set up and normally stop most warez type hacks... only cost around $300 from what i remember - netgear and places like them make them.
they have tried and tried with our server we are very lucky to run a non unix non NT server. Just be careful, the Warez KiddieZ create com1 and com2 directories, these directories are very hard to delete, sometime requireing a format to get rid of them. also watch out for directories with hidden ascii characters, ie Alt+0160 will make a filename or dir become blank.
