New radiator underway. No filler neck as it will be filled via the header tank.

Also switched out the recirc valves for some Gen 5 raceports from Turbosmart. No real performance advantage compared to the recircs but no disadvantage (no AFM) and we're definitely going a little more "racecar" this time around. Second pic also shows tiny little 1/16" npt thread installed for an Emtron/Racespec fast response AIT sensor.

Bit going on with the back end of the car now.

New exhaust hanger mounts to tuck the mufflers up high

thirdstrike exhaust 3.jpg thirdstrike exhaust 4.jpg

Ditched the idea of the Nismo R33 mufflers, I came tot he conclusion they're not really in keeping with the rest of the car. I'm using SP mufflers and Ben will make the tips for them.

thirdstrike exhaust 5.jpg thirdstrike exhaust 6.jpg

Coming out pretty much the same as the system that came off it. But I did want to give Ben the freedom to work backwards from the turbos and put everything where it needed to be rather than trying to meet in the middle somewhere. Prety happy with how it's coming together. Can also see where I satrted to run out of underbody spray lol. Job for another day....

Gee even bespoke hanger mounts, looking very nice Rob!
Must be getting close to drive-able now?

Ah man still a bit to do....

Fuel system, oil cooling, vacuum circuits etc... and I'm supposed to be building an EFI harness for it... but progress is progress :)

Finished off with some 3.5" tips.

Fun thing about doing everything this way is tip length, diaemeter, etc etc is anythign I want it to be... in this case anting to fill out the space but also keep the tips flush with the bottom edge of the bumper.

Had a nice surprise turn up on Friday.

With 1100hp worth of turbo strapped to the motor I had been casually keeping my eye on the used market for PPG dog boxes for a little while. Then in July 2022 Melbourne based Speedtek Auto Racing announced a pre order for their RB/VG close ratio dog gearset that was just too good pass up.

    The ratios for 1-4 are

    4th - 1:1
    3rd : 1.263
    2nd : 1.625
    1st : 2.230

5th then becomes slightly underdriven comapred to factory at .55, which should work well for highway speeds with the leader gearset. They also have a .7 in the works for release later in the year, that might get a look in at some stage.

I picked up a used and abused 2k spec box and shipped that down to Melbourne to have the gearset and a few other bits installed, and after a bit of a wait (which was to be expected with a pre order, and more than made up for with the initial discount on the gears) it turned up back to me around 6:30 Friday night.

    speedtek box.jpg

Full specs on the box are

    - Speedtek 1000hp close ratio dog gearset
    - New bearing set
    - Chome moly 4140 billet forks (3) for 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th, 5th/Reverse
    - Billet sandwhich plate
    - Chrome moly main bearing retainer
    - Chrome moly bearing retainer spacer
    - Bronze phosphour main shift rod bush
    - HD shifter return springs

I also went with a billet HRB cover, which allows use of a Tilton hydraulic release bearing, completely eliminating the slave cylinder/clutch fork/pivot ball assembly. It also allowed sufficient machining to fit a 26 spline billet input shaft. More on how that all works HERE if anyone is interested.

Quick pic of the upgraded input shaft and transmission front cover.
    speedtek transmission front cover.jpg

As I mentioned above the shaft is 26 spline GM spec.

The OE front cover can be machined out to accept the larger input shaft, but as you can see in the pic below (oe cover top, machined oe cover bottom) it really thins out the cast ally snout. The billet cover is built to accomodate the larger shaft.

    image_a3545cea-e959-44ae-ac4f-e832c38ee0b9_2048x2048.jpg

The other benefit is that it is built for one of these https://tiltonracing.com/product-ca...rings/8000-series-hydraulic-release-bearings/ to bolt up to it, which eliminates the slave cylinder, clutch fork, and pivot ball. I do have the upgraded fork and pivot ball in my 2k transmission a the moment, and really don't expect any issues even with higher clamp load, but one thing leads to another...

    Smart choice upgrading the box-
You ended up locking in the option I was going until a PPG helical dog box fell into play at just the right time.

the above aspects I don’t have however and look pretty damn good!!!
What clutch are you operating with this?

The speedtek gears are also helical cut (cut on an angle from the centre of the gear rather than perpendicular to) and more dogs per gear than the PPG, so should be a little faster to engage. Splitting hairs, though.

Straight cut of course would be stronger but realistically you're not going to break a helical dog gear with a 3.0L TT.

I haven't really looked at clutches yet; I don't think there are any off the shelf options for Z32 and 26 spline but shouldn't be hard to get one made up. It's fairly common for GTRs so really just a matter of getting something made with a flywheel to suit Z32.

Not too much going on lately but did get to test fitting a pedal setup for the DBW throttle bodies.

@Anti has been a big help with this one and has done the lug work designing an adapter etc.

Started with a standard Bosch DBW pedal, which is way different to the OEM pedal as shown below.

    Bosch pedal no bueno.jpg

350z pedal share a lot more in common with the OE pedal so worked out to be a better starting point, albeit more expensive.

    350z pedal.jpg

And installed in the car with the prototype adapter. Now that we know it works the next step will be getting some billet pieces cut in the new year.

Started mocking up the new EFI harnes. As none of the sensors, control actuators, injectors, ignition coils etc are standard anymore I thought it made more sense to start from scratch.

One of my missions over the holiday period has been to finish all the HPA electrical/wiring courses. With that done it's on to creating the mockup that will eventually become the new engine room harness.

I've got the main branches worked out, need to go and install the injectors and coils now to finalise those termination points, and figure out where I'm going to install things like the oil filter (and TMAP sensor), flex sensor, and fuel pressure regulator (which will have the fuel pressure sensor).

It's a bit of a slow process trying to fit the time to work on it around life in general but I'm enjoying building my skill set.

Hi Rob, Great looking project. What DBW box are you using? I'm wanting to set one up on a friends car. He's looking for a box to read the pedal, control the TB's and provide a TPS signal to the ECU.

Hi Ivan, everything is being managed by the Emtron KV8 - the throttle body motors are powered via two of the H bridge supplies, and then it's just a matter of having enough I/O to manage the position sensor circutis (two on the pedal, two on each TB) and I've got two 5v supplies so one for the EFI harness and one for the pedal harness.
