Lads the pumps are the same between tt and na. Yes there’s different pumps for jpg/aus vs USA but who cares. Pumps changed from 94 onwards when s2 z32 started rolling out.

89-93 if you find a second hand go your hardest. Have replaced a good handful over the years.

I have one still in my shed if you need it for use?

PM me and we can chat if anyone wants it.

Hi @Sanouske I'm trying to fault find my compressor too. I had it regassed last year. It never appeared to have been charged since it was imported in 2006 as all the R12 connections were intact. It works brilliantly but is noisy, (sounds a bit like a supercharger when revving) so I don't use it to avoid any damage. The front clutch bearing is ok, have been told it may need more pag oil?? Does that sound potentially correct? Can you cast any light on what a worn / failed compressor sounds like?

I also have a spare I can swap in but trying to avoid if possible.

Hi mate, sorry for the delay in response.

Regarding the pumps and change of gasses. I’d be surprised if it hasn’t had a regas using 134a by now but stranger things happen. Old r12 refrigerant systems were always superior in my mind. Colder

Now, allot of older systems still have the r12 charge ports as it’s affixed to the lines, most mechanical shops have adapters to allow the 134a charge hoses to connect to them. Some “conversations” screw on a permanent adapter and get sold to the customer as apart of the deal.

Apart of a conversation would entail a new receiver dryer and drain of the oils in the pump and filled with 134a compliant oil.

The oil is important as it does lubricate the internals of the pump.

A good workshop would have a compliance sticker put on the pump, on the rad support and note it in the book in the glovebox.

If you believe the compressor clutch bearing is fine, I would be concerned the internals of the pump are are scored and that’ll sound like a muffled/crunchy squeal. No saving it if it’s that far gone.

Additionally pump noises can occur from an overcharge of the circuit also. But again it’s hard to stuff this up if the workshop is half reliable.

Might suggest take a little video of the sounds and flick me a PM. I’ll send you my mobile number you can message me the video. See what we can diagnose.
