"We also cut up the AMS front pipes to insert cats" So you must have used 3'' cats then, and if so how did you go for tunnel clearance/ road clearance. I went 3'' pipe from the dp's to 3'' cats, back to 2.5'' center muffler, then 2.5'' to rear mufflers. Problem is the cats sit low(exhaust shop did the work) because there's f/a room in the tunnel when there side by side, and because of that the whole exhaust is lower than normal, cant put the tunnel support bracket on, the only up side is that it sounds incredible. I have a pair of those ams front pipes, I may use them when my tig welding improves.
    Major hijack, soz harts.

I have to say, on closer inspection @beaver , your car is neat underneath!

    IB ?????

I modified 2.5" cats into 3" in 2.5" out cats. My cats are further back than yours (in stock location), so have more clearance and sit up higher.

From the cats back my system is 2.5" and has clearance for the tunnel bracket. Sorry, haven't got any pictures.

Love the plates. Are they street legal?
In regards to the exhaust system, I love the look of the two pipes out the back. But does a single exhaust on a twin turbo offer any advantages?

Plates are the new legal Rego, yes. I couldn't believe they were available, I just checked for shits and giggles and voilah!

To be honest, I can't answer your question regarding single versus twin exhaust on this platform. I have always operated under the impression that more flow is best with forced induction. I could assume that 1 x 3" exhaust would flow less than 2 x 3" exhaust, unless there was some turbulence if and where the flow met (cross pipe etc), but that would be an assumption. Others more informed may be able to elaborate.

Being relatively new to the VG platform, I have only researched a little and so my mods are so far based around the "breather" concept of increasing intercooler and exhaust piping size. I purchased my exhaust based mostly on its 3" diameter versus the more typical 2.5".

Ok, a couple more packages arrived last week, just waiting on the gearbox now. One from Shaftmasters in the US, one from Import Monster in Japan.

The shaft looks good, Spicer joints. I got the steel version, just in case I want to go really stupid later.

I had 3 items in the Import Monster box, some T-Top Covers, some great condition speaker grills for the front doors and some original floor mats. The mats were in excellent condition, the drivers need a little clean and then a general tidy up to bring them up to spec!

Really looking forward to some progress on the car, hopefully not too far off now!

    Some progress to report!

So we have been waiting for a part to arrive, but time has just about run out as the workshop is moving premises at the end of March

They decided to go ahead and start, putting some faith in the fact the part will arrive (otherwise the car is getting towed/stored and started again when the next shop opens up).

Mid this week the engine and trans came out, and the major service started on the motor. Whilst the engine was.coming out the guys confirmed the leak with the power steering, but it was more severe that first thought. The engine bay was a complete mess down there, so I was asked to order up 8 new hoses, 4 power steering, 2 heater core and 2 oil cooler due to deterioration. I had 6 Z1 silicon hoses and 2 AMS power steering hoses with Banjos expressed from the states to solve that issue.

I had previously organised with the guys to head down to the workshop to clean the engine bay with the engine out, even more important after seeing the extent of the power steering leak.

So I went about degreasing the crap out of it, it took a while but it came to this...
    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
    Quite happy with that result!

As an added bonus, the Veilside Exhaust was on the hangers, awesome to see it in action.

I pulled them off of the hangers to inspect, they were a little dirty.[IMG]

So I hit them with a bit of elbow grease too :)[IMG]

They look excellent on the car, just the look I wanted (period JDM) and 3" to boot!
    [IMG] [IMG]

I'll send more updates as they happen, cheers!

Thanks @MintZ32 , took a while to clean! I'll let you know how the exhaust sounds once the engine is back in :)

Looks good, are you going to have that rust treated and repainted under the master cylinder while the engine is out? Best time to do it.
Also, looks like you're missing the firewall grommet around the heater core hoses too, did they remove that for some reason while pulling the engine?

    Good spotting!

In fact I performed the rust kill, prime and paint today, though I didn't take a photo. The heater core grommet is sitting on the bench next to the next Z1 Silicon heater core hoses.

I found out today that I was supplied a TT clutch pedal, instead of the NA pedal I asked for, so I found a clutch pedal at a local wrecker... phew! A clutch pedal by itself seemed difficult to source, so I feel lucky today :)

Here is a pic I took yesterday of the paint repair, it's a fair bit more vivid than the rest, but that will change in time as the dust settles. A little bit of material from the ongoing works fell on it over the last few days, but you get the idea.

If you look next to the brake booster.you will see the holes for the clutch pedal and master drilled out too.

I had a quick shot at cleaning the engine up, just a quick degrease for the sake of tidying up whilst it's out of the car in those spots I won't see until the engine is out again. I took some pictures of a couple of the new bits that went on, a few hard to get to hoses in Z1 silicon, the oil pan, the BDE low profile mounts, the major service bits and the later model style 1000cc injectors.

The fuel hose replacement and Coolant deletes under the manifold have been done, as has the EGR delete.

We decided replace the ageing FPR with a Radium FPR, along with the rest of the fuel line replacements, the new Deatschwerk fuel pump, the flex fuel sensor and the fuel filter I had installed a few months ago, the fuel system is now fully updated and should be leak free! I'll sure miss that fuel smell in the morning o_O

There are a few more Z1 power steering silicon hoses and a couple of AMS Kevlar power steering hoses with integral Banjos to go on still to sort out all of those power steering leaks.

The Z1 intercoolers and 2.5" pipework was also installed. The intercoolers are big, dwarfing the OEM guys, and look the business. The pipework looks great to boot too! The workshop guys let me know the kit fit with minimal clearancing and they were impressed with the overall fit and finish whilst getting it all to fit in the cramped Z32 engine bay/factory cooler locations.

The excitement must be building for that first drive harts. Id say you'll be impressed with how it performs, its quite a measured parts list you've supplied. I'm looking forward to hearing you thoughts after the tune and test drive. Well done!

@beaver it is mate, it is. The arrival of the box a few days early has got me started up, for sure. Let's hope it gets finished before they shut the workshop on the 31st of this month!

The only thing I'm worried about are the surprises that you can't plan for along the way, we have had 2 so far that required quick action (valve cover and NA clutch pedal both needed alternatives sought quickly last week). You never know what pops it's ugly head up!

Measured parts list absolutely, hopefully this is enough to make it quick and 100% reliable for a good while.

Good to hear the Z1 pipework fits well, I'd heard it was a bit hit and miss compared to the SpecialtyZ pipework. Although may be a different story when you go to put the radiator in.

It's a good time to replace that rubber steering column bush with a solid one while the engine is out too, and steering rack bushes if they haven't been done already. Both can be done in car, but much easier with the engine out.

@ryzan good info, wish I'd known about the steering bushes a little earlier, I think that is now a job for engine in/next time.

I'll let you know if the rad doesn't fit with the pipes.
