I considered not removing the guards, but given the compost that was lurking in there I'm glad I did!

Got some pressies in the post today, ratcheting car stands and new gas struts for the hatch. Treated myself to a big garage jack too.

So much room for activities! Shout out to nitrolift.com.au, struts were cheap as and looking super good.

Car is now Nugget Garage compliant - wheels are off so officially being worked on.

This just in - tank is out

Internally it's much better than I'd anticipated. When I pulled the pump the sock was pretty clean - I'd expected it to be clogged with massive rust flakes. Looking inside, there is a layer of silt which will definitely be coming out along with about 2/3 of a tank of stale fuel.

You can see the outline where the pickup was sitting:

Yesterday I took off the drivers side door card. If it's not too much of a nightmare I'll take out the glass and handle later.

Deleted a heap of wiring today. Left over stereo and alarm, will be a nervous first start when I put the fuel tank back in

Nearly chopped some stray wires that were hanging around annoying me, but thankfully I followed them to the source. Someone's installed power folding mirrors (off the twin turbo I assume?) You operate them with a rocker switch, at least I hope so, I didn't test before removing the mirrors.

Also the passengers side door looks like it's got factory keyless entry, again maybe off a TT? The drivers side keyless entry was definitely not factory and is now removed anyway.

Its standard to have the factory auto door opener on the p side, it unlocks or locks the p side door when you open/close the drivers side door with the key, the after market activator you found in drivers side door allows for real keyless open/close to booth doors.

Thanks beaver, good to know. Also makes perfect sense now I think about it. My only research prior to purchase was REVS check and rough price guide, other than that - 2 doors, RWD, I'm in.

Just a bump to show I'm still around. Progress is glacial, work, life and other projects really getting in the way but that's the way she goes.

Tank is ready to go back in after being cleaned off and resprayed with bitumen underbody coating (seems to be what was on there based on the way brake cleaner took the OEM coating off ) just need to weld up a small rust hole in the spare wheel well first. Pulled the instrument cluster off to reveal a train wreck of busted plastic and half baked repairs, not really surprised but sheet metal screws?! Put that firmly in the "deal with later" basket. Might need a left hand NA pod as the bottom mountings are busted off mine as well as the sliders for heat/cold and fan speed.

Most of the stone guard is stripped off, what a pain that job is, won't be sorry when I'm finished that. Eying up a few places that will need filler but there's not too many. Got about $1K worth of parts waiting to go into the engine and brakes, just needing time  Seats are out, will get them recovered at some point. I've given one side of the car a bit of a scuff, the plan is a scratch and spray paint job. We'll see...

I've settled on a Twin Z designs spoiler, either type 1, 2 or 3 (probably 1 or 2 as they're more OEM even though the type 3 is pretty sweet). Still no wheels, thinking maybe G35 Infiniti factory 17" 7 spoke but depends on cost and availability - looks like importing from the USA is the only way.
