Intermittent clutch problem

    Hi,

Just need some advice re my clutch on my Auspec.

A bit of history here. About 5 year / 30,000 km ago, I replaced the clutch slave cylinder after it failed.

All has been going well for the last 5 years.

Just lately, I am having an issue where my clutch pedal occasionally does not operate the clutch. In other words, the pedal goes to the floor without the clutch disengaging (and the gears can't be changed, etc.).

This might happen once every 30 or so clutch presses.

Is there a reason why it happens so intermittently and can anyone suggest what to fix/replace?

    Thanks in advance.

Any pattern to the problem? Is the pedal soft when it fails to work? Either it's a hydraulic problem (flush/bleed, replace lines or master and slave to fix) or a mechanical problem with the fork/clutch assembly which means gearbox out and see what's up.

Agree with Fists, Flush Bleed, and get a one piece line from the master to the slave cylinder that stops a lot of issues.

I think more on the hydraulic side than the mechanical side. I am perplexed as to why it suddenly happens and then goes away. Fine to bleed it again but I was hoping someone could relate their own experience of similar.

How would a one piece line help?

The fact that it's intermittent would suggest to me that the master cylinder is on it's way out. They tend to give you some warning before the seals eventually sh@t themselves completely.

A Stainless steel braided one piece clutch line will eliminate all the oem plumbing that runs along the inner guard, making bleeding much easier. The SS braided line will also eliminate the expansion under pressure experienced by the rubber oem line.

Do yourself a favour and go to your local brake/clutch shop and get them to make you up a SS braided line with screw in flare fittings instead of those crappy banjo bolt fittings

I have a similar issue, but mostly after sitting for extended periods. No pedal pressure, give it one pump then it's all good.

Chased it for months and months, finally found a really small leak on the inside of the firewall.

    Are you losing fluid?

Thanks for everyone's help. I think it would be the master cylinder by the sound of it. It does happen several times on a drive not just after sitting. I think it might have lost a tiny bit of fluid but I must confess I hadn't checked it for a year before the other day.

Where does one source a good master cylinder for an Auspec?
