Hi Guys, call me optimistic but i refuse to accept that my auto box is plain dead. Run down of events... car got lazy in its gear changes a few months back. seemed you had to back off of the throttle to change up from first to second. Theres been no slipping or grinding. Also felt like it didn't want to go into overdrive. Then just randomly 3 weeks ago the car refuses to go up gears, both in D or manual 1 2 select. It select everything fine with reverse 1 2 and d and park. Have replaced TPS and ATCU. Fluid level is fine, but not pink/red in colour. looks dirty. Ran Auto diagnostics but no codes have shown. Car is otherwise running fine. Any suggestions what to do next.
maybe add some lucas stop slip to the fluid. also i would still look at the atcu could be causing problems i went through 2 before i found a good one for my auto
I had similar problem, was ATCU causing the box not to shift, would just rev out in the gear, try to borrow one off a car that you know works if you haven't already.
Which state? There's a few shops worth seeing that know these cars. When auto fluid goes brown it's usually past it because the oil is too old and basically burnt up the trans. Doesn't sound good.
Nissan patrols run the same transmission RE4R03A, so any 4wd workshop close to you will be able to service it. As above if not serviced correctly things like this happen. If having it serviced ask for a new filter, and a fluid flush this is different to dropping the oil and topping it up. Its basically a pump hooked up to the inlet and outlets that flushes the fluid till its pink again expect to pay $250 plus the filter supply and fit. If they don't have this machine, shop somewhere else. Not saying this will bring it back to life, but a really good start. If its still failing after the fluid flush, swap it out for a reco one , any transmission workshop will be able to supply and fit this. Or freight that one from the link I put in your wanted add, and have it fitted.
My Z is auto with reconditioned tranny. What a difference it makes!!! Good advice by MORBOOST. If your g/box cannot be resurrected after the oil flush, get a quote on a rebuild. Mine cost $2500 just for rebuild. I had to remove and fit it with help from a friend. Perhaps if the shop can do it for $2500 - $3000 including removing and refitting and or replacing with a reconditioned unit or rebuilding yours, I'd say that's a good price. After that, change oil with synthetic every 50,000kms not every 100,000 and it will last a loooooong time. I guess it all depends if you plan on keeping the car for a while or not.
