I'm actually loving this. That's some bloody nice fab work. God those intercooler pipes are low though. Can you give us some more photos of the cooling system and some explanation?

Yeah the intercooler piping is way low. It's an original HKS kit and is no longer in production. I've done an alternative setup on another Z where you hole saw through the inner guard but I hesitated doing that on this car.

I will likely get PWR to make me a new one for a couple reasons because the end tank outlets are only 2.25" and will likely choke out on big boost. Plus side it's responsive as and I'm making boost really early. I'll move to a custom tapered log manifold with front mount throttle body which will cut out about 2ft of piping in an effort to counter the larger diameter piping and bigger intercooler when I get to it.

As for the cooling system itself I'm running a big custom PWR radiator with 50mm core. Coupled with the 3000cfm SPAL e-fan it runs cool as anything, even heat soaked to shit in traffic on a 35C day here in Brisbane.

(Diagram shows 42mm but I stepped this up to 50mm based on PWRs recommendations)

Sounds like you've got it thought out. Didn't know HKS ever did an off the shelf cooler. More phptoos of the kit on the car?

They certainly did however it's been discontinued for a long while now.

It was a complete fluke I was able to find it; being 70% efficient designed core with about a 1.5psi pressure drop the only real downside is the low piping route. But for my application as mentioned the end tank outlet diameter will restrict me at high(er) boost levels so I'm upgrading this anyway and will reroute it.

If you take a look at my intake piping, this gives you an idea of what it will look like at some point.

It's been a while but I finally got there with the final tune on this setup running 98 fuel, after putting about 15,000kms on the engine since the rebuild.

    314kW @ 473Nm

At 20psi+ I need to upgrade the intercooler as expected as the endtank outlets and piping diameter is too small at 20psi. I also suspect this turbo won't quite get me there either as boost starting dropping away towards the top end, so I'll be stepping up to the Precision 6766 most likely.

Next steps is my flex fuel sensor and e85 setup to hit my 370kW target

Good to hear more progress has been made. It's probably more to do with the rear housing size. 0.63 is quite small and will choke up top like you are seeing. Most SR20 run on .63 but guessing you're on boost fairly quickly? .82 6766 would definitely be a better match to the 3L.

Yeah I have been very mindful to not create a lag monster, but you're right I may have to comprise somewhere. This setup spools wicked fast, coupled with the smaller diameter intercooler piping.

I'm torn between fitting something in the current location like the GTX 3584RS, which I think I can fit. The other option is going bananas on a new manifold and front mount something bigger.

I gotta say though, you can really feel an instant 92kW bump from a power tune haha,

With 98 I'd go with a bigger turbo and run less boost. Definnitely go with a .82. Everything is just under less stress but will be a bit laggier. You might get to 350 on just 98.

If you are going E85 then a GTX3584 will be a great match since you can really turn up the boost.

Precision 6262 will do over 500kw in .82a/r....

Yes space is an issue going with something bigger and will open up a can of worms with my custom intake and exhaust manifold lol I think I can squeeze in that Garrett turbo as is.

I'm going to start with a larger intercooler on this setup as I have to expected this hks unit to eventually be limiting due to the end tank outlet size and piping.

I have an intermittent hot start issue that I believe is electrical, and a few other little gremlins but overall mechanically this thing hauls now.
