Thanks, but I'm sorted for now for the ecu. More info once it's installed, tuned and tested :p

What? That ruins the point of this whole derailing man! Going all rouge on your own. You just ruined all fun for me here...

whats wrong with your nistune ? is there a 32by 32 map expansion available?

im running a microtech lt12s its dog balls old but does the job ! no frills but was basically all that was available at the time .

what you need to find is a good tuner and talk to them first, a good ecu's worth nothing with a bad tuner

    i had a mob tune my z it pushed 380hp at 15psi

identical setup i had my current tuner push 505hp easily on a street tune on 18psi . it all depends on your tuner

Has Nistune been upgraded to compete with the likes of the latest Motec, Microtec, Link, Haltech, Emtron etc?

Some of the most important things you need to make good strong reliable power without destroying engines are:

Decent trigger system - forget the factory CAS, it is a paperweight when you want reliable power beyond about 350kws

MAP sensor rather than MAF sensor If your ECU doesn't know MAP it can't control the waste gates, if it can't do that then you will likely need a standalone boost controller = waste of time and money, just buy an ECU with that ability built in.

Fuel and oil pressure sensor inputs & the ability to adjust the tune to suit, the importance of this is blatantly obvious & WILL save your engine when systems without this will let your engine expire rapidly.

If you are going to try and build a high powered Z without these things you are likely going to end up in tears or with a less than ideal bang for buck ratio.

Nistune is brilliant for the ~300kw bracket, flex fuel, full boost control is on the way (deployed for RB26), full plug and play with OEM sensors/solenoids and sub-computers..

but it does fall down on basically all of Mungyz' points, the resolution of the factory CAS is poor by modern standards, MAFs are annoying and you need two plus a sellin or a dummy maf/balance pipe for higher power levels and for engine safety your only hope is gauges with alarms and a good operator.

But for ~$400 you can't beat it. Not going to expect $6k+ Motec levels of performance for that price. If you're spending $30k on the engine and shooting for the moon then the high end stuff is a good idea. If you're the average owner running some high flows and a bigger intercooler and injectors then Nistune is fine.

$400 + decent oil pressure gauge +decent fuel pressure gauge + another AFR & Selin translator or a dummy AFM & expect idle issues etc + 10% down on power compared to what you could be.

Or what ever the Link G4 retails at in Aus plus some tune time and what ever sensors you add ..... lets say $2500 for an awesome ECU with multiple sensors installed and tuned & then you can sell your CAS & AFM

A plug in ECU that totally destroys the factory ECU even with all the upgrades you can get, otherwise it's like starting with a stock standard Toyota Corolla & saying it can be modified to be faster than a high spec late model fezza :p

    In addition to Mungyz's comments.

To go to the trouble of fitting and tuning a programmeable ECU and then just using a PnP adapter or spliced into the original loom is just false economy.

Plug in ecus are great if you go for a new wiring harness as well but as these cars approach 30 years, issues develop from one end to the other. high resistance in joints, cracked insulation, corrosion and whatnot. Just renewing plugs and terminals is only half the job. Why bother at all?

I will NOT fit any aftermarket programmeable ECU without building a new loom for it. Plain and simple.

So, it takes several hours to terminate everything. Well, when your talking a high horsepower/ RPM build, does a few additional hours actually matter in the scheme of things?
Wiring an ECU, even one with "umpteen" in/outs isnt difficult at all. Its just time consuming.

    Anyway!!!

he Modular series Adaptronic looks great. Unfortunate I didn't get to use my pnp select, but the link seems to be nice also.

I have been using Adaptronic now for many years and can confirm this.
Andy is one of the most helpful and motivated people I know.
Hes passionate and enthusiastic about his product and has always been willing to help with ANY issues at all.
Ive even had my own features suggestions implemented in the coding and software.

I will look NO-where else for programmeable ECU's now.
    Just my experiences.
