While getting fuel earlier in the week, my son noticed another Z at the servo. Had a chat to the owner and it turned out after owning the car for 5yrs, he'd been thinking of selling it :D
'96 auto AuSpec (so one of the last sold new in Australia). Wants a full respray but mostly anything else it needs, I've already got good replacements for it.
Considering what these currently sell for whole, I must admit, parting out a later model is tempting. All original; velour trim; excellent condition airbag steering wheel; later model rear spoiler, etc - what do you say, part it or tidy her up?

    Aus-spec = 2+2, n/a, targa

If it's fixable I'd be inclined to with a '96 model

A late model Auspec is worth keeping for your son. He obviously wants it.
Is it faded metallic paint and looking tired? If it needs a respray? Original will by now.
Might be time to learn a new skill.

I was just reading that thread about the low km Auspec in NT, I think late models are even better to own and should be restored.

Is there such demand to part out, do owners really want to upgrade their 1990 car interiors to look like a later model?

Depends on what you're inclined to do. If you've got the time I think you could make more from parting out. (Plus you could have some fun with your kid parting it out.)
But if you want it for your son or another one for yourself - just keep it.

If it were me and I already had one good Z. I'd part it out.

Thanks for the feedback. Would prefer to give it a new life but it's frustrating to put a lot of time and a reasonable amount of money into restoring one of these only to have one potential buyer after another insisting that a good one is only worth $100 more than a bad one... have parted 5 out now but the last one I restored was for sale for a full year before the right buyer came along.
Will just work out the approximate cost of restoring it first before deciding.
With a vibration on accelerating, probably wants a replacement drive shaft - but how does an auto NA end up with a buggered drive shaft?

Thanks Steve. Rest assured I've set several DH's straight / refused test drives, etc. One I like best is that a few years back when I had a nicely tidied up red one for sale I had this prick come around one Saturday morning to take it for a test drive with what turned out to be a chick he'd met literally the night before! Big hero drove it pretty hard too. Got back to my place and I then put the hard word on him. Such an immaculate, HOT, sexy, flawless and well-priced sports car - well he just had to agree he'd buy it to impress his new girl. But hey, it's not sold unless you put a deposit on it. Oh, but I don't have my wallet with me. No problem, my computer's on upstairs, come on, you can just EFT me a $300 deposit - then it's as good as yours. So upstairs this suddenly uncomfortable dickhead went with his girl all excited on his arm and he sat there and transferred me $300! Sure enough, that afternoon he rings up to explain he was just wanting to impress his new girlfriend and could I please just refund the $300 as soon as I saw it in my account. So I just thanked him for wasting my time and driving my car hard and explained that joyride just cost him $300 and he could just GO GET F!!!ED!

Honestly, part it out. Irrelevant of it being a later model, the cost of a full respray will outweigh its overall value. The "diamond in the rough" examples, however diminishing over recent years, do still come up too frequently.

...Michael's right. Due to the cost of a professional respray and likely resale price... not comfortable with this but I'm parting this car out....

It's a white, auto, Au-Spec (2+2, auto, NA). 112,000km car with original manuals. Velour interior, excellent condition Airbag steering wheel, late model rear spoiler. No rust anywhere except 10cent sized spot on RH targa panel. So totally rust-free rear hatch with a virtually brand new looking infill / brake light panel. Will list some initial parts as a new thread together with lots of photos. Only things missing from car are targa panel bags, tie-down straps + I won't be selling the dash demisting vents in to top of the brand new condition dash since the LH strip is no longer available from Nissan.
Aside from panels needing respray, I would expect this car is simply as good condition as part-out cars get.
Will reply to Rob and Michael regarding the parts they've expressed interest in, thanks.

Also, anyone after a late model NA engine that starts instantly, please let me know.
