As per usual, I'm meant to be working instead I'm looking at parts on the interweb.
I've come across these Japtek lightweight pulleys
. Do you think there would be much performance gain on a 2+0 NA. Fully stripped and looking at circuit racing it!

Underdrive pulleys do work, on a NA where you really are looking at every last kw gain here and there, they'll certainly make a difference.

At $200 it's not unreasonable for a full set.

There's been plenty of discussion on whether the crank pulley should be changed to an undamped one which does not dampen crank harmonics but not going to go there today. NA engines are cheap enough to replace if need be.

Oh so these have a dampener on the Crank Pulley? I wasn't sure. And at the moment yeah I'm looking at getting as much power as possible without taking the engine out

No dampener on the japtek pulleys.

The factory pulley does have a dampener.

If you want a lightweight pulley with dampener you have options available from Ross (AUS) and ATI (USA). Members Magic Mike and Black Beast may have Ross pulleys for sale second-hand.

Are there any benefits to having a dampener compared to non-dampened?

    longevity of your crank bearings.

I don't think the fancy dampened variants would be an economical option for an NA, they're a heap heavier than the cheap ones and twice the price. Plus your bearings are under much less load in an NA than any TT.

Aluminium pulleys and flywheels do affect comfort and noise/vibration/harshness though so if you like a nice mild mannered streeter maybe not the best option.

If you do decide to get a set from 'Japtek' don't forget to mention you're from this forum as they will give you a discount.

So in your opinion an na z32 (running 98 unleaded (no corn juice yet)) won't really be badly affected by a non dampened crank pulley. Not going to be street driven. Strictly going to be short circuit track work so not overly worried about noise or drive comfort.

I'm more conservative in what I would recommend to other people but I would [am] considering running one again. I had one on for a year but swapped engines when the headgasket popped and haven't put the alloy unit back on yet. If you've raised the rev limiter I would be more hesitant but I don't find myself using the redline anyway. They're quite common on Zs and don't think I've seen many incidents of bearing failure in general or associated with the pulleys. RB engines absolutely rely on the pulley though.

Possibly the most annoying thing about the UR pulley was it's quite slippery so wet weather (vented bonnet) or high loads (seized fan clutch) on the belts will let it slip.
