Engine Alternatives?

    What makes you think the engine will become expensive and hard to maintain?

    Of course it will require maintaining as it gets older, but it seems irrational to suggest that the engine will become so impossible to keep running as to justify a swap?

    +1 eventually they will make them to retrofit into any vehicle, Tesla engine in a z32 might be quite cool

    Only for the retro appeal.

    There has been a Z32 converted to electric. I think there was a full build website. Some of the comments questioned the weight of the Zed and lack of boot space for batteries in back. I think they put batteries in the front too.

    The Mausewerks one eventually got sold before completion, the guy building it went back to the US to work for Tesla, and I dont know if it ever got finished..... real shame that

    Well I would of wait few more years until there is few Tesla wrecks out there. But even then it won't be cheap conversion...

    I would consider it an interesting project to create a hybrid with a electric motor assisting the drive shaft, better power delivery, better response, better economy.

    This has been a good thread. A lot of things I didn't consider. Thanks for your thoughts everyone.

    I have an Australian delivered non turbo. In relation to the engine being over engineered with a lot of stuff that can be taken out, does that to apply to Australian delivered models as well?

    NA engines are easy... remove AIV, PRVR, EGR and engine bay is pretty much empty after that. You can see the ground if you look down! A luxury if you drop something. Do an underplenum bypass, remove the fuel hardlines and run direct hoses and it's actually quite easy to understand how it all goes back together.

    TT engine bay... if you drop something, say good bye to it until the next engine pull.

    I would add that I was always taught and have firmly come to believe that you can only select 2 of these criteria with any car engine in general use.....

    A true ZX man may do,

    :D Buy a second hand motor and trans unit wile they are cheep. Do it up and moth ball it for when it will be required.:zlove::rolleyes2::rofl:
