Rear wheel play

Discussion in 'Technical' started by slicktop_beast, Oct 10, 2016.

  1. I currently have the rear shafts out, when I have the car in the air and everything is still tight, there is a about 2mm of free play in the rear passenger wheel. Normal because of shaft removal or am I up for a new bearing/hub?

Removing the shaft shouldn't change anything.

  3. new hub then or just bearing? or could it be from worn suspension bushes or something?

pop the wheel off and see if the knuckle is loose too, could be bushes.

  5. All good looks like I'm up for a new bearing. 3 z's in now and I much prefer my supra, It's a superior car in every way. Think this will be my last Z.

  6. Everything was already completely apart so i could fit the handbrake assembly. Nah I just took the wheel off, its play in the actual hub so I'm guessing bearing is shot. Torqued everything to spec and still have play.

You're obviously doing it wrong :p

I think the bearing/hub design in these is such that the hub often develops some wear too so might be worth checking whether you need the assembly or just the bearing before ordering. Haven't pulled them apart myself but seem to remember reading people run into that problem.

  8. Don't know what you mean by doing it wrong, I've followed the fsm, referenced many pictures and the opposing side that I have yet to touch, everything is as it should be, except the free play. I'm not really that interested in these cars anymore tbh, not after experiencing a reliable car for once.

That bit was just a reference to you saying poopras are better.

  10. I've spent 10k on a car that still has yet to run, I've spent half that on a reliable supra. I have now owned 3 zeds and have spent over 20k on them and every single one has been useless. Sorry man, they are just too plagued with issues compared to a 5k supra.

I have a 1JZ swapped mk3 Supra and when things go wrong on they are JUST as costly as zeds.

Luckily you can at least replace turbos on them without an engine pull (argh zeds) but people charge good money for the crappy stock twins, which share a common dump pipe and looks like something out of aliens buried under a rats nest of vacuum hoses and intake piping. Sounds familiar? Yep zeds are the same thing.

  12. na auto 134xxx original km's full service history including new starter and 100k service done. After 20k on z's I cant say the same, that's just fact. You may have had good luck with them, but I've now been burnt 3 times by them and lesson finally learned.

    Only 20k on a trio of 300zx's?

    You're definitely doing it wrong

  14. That's gold haha. I'll move on to another part of the build and revisit the bearing issue at a later stage, not a priority at this stage I guess.
