Injector plugs - Fuel in cylinder

So I am trying to help a young guy with a NA Z32 who has purchased an engine from a Gold Coast "wrecker" and is having trouble getting it to run.
One thing I noticed today was that the injectors have the wiring plug locating notch on the LEFT yet his wiring harness has the groove in the middle.
Some of the injectors have had the notch ground off whilst some of the plugs have had a section cut out to allow it to fit over the injector cap.
How big a drama is this? Obviously they are different injectors to harness but other than the dodgeness of doing what has been done, is there a real problem? Are the two in fact incompatible?
The other issue is that #5 cylinder ? (Rear drivers side) is filling with fuel when the engine is cranked over.
One or two rotations of the engine and it hydraulically locks due to the fuel in the cylinder, even with the injector wiring disconnected.
Is this likely to be a seals issue within the fuel rail and or the injector? We have tried two different injectors in case the first was blocked open, with the same result.
Any help/guidance would be much appreciated.

This was considered "standard practice" by many in years gone by, as it allowed people to use the bosch type quick release connectors. As you mentioned it's pretty bodgy and can lead to bad connections. Unlikely to cause trouble in the short term though provided all of the plugs have been pushed right down onto the injector.

Sounds like either the injector is stuck open or the o rings have perished.

Did you check/replace the o-rings when you tried swapping the injectors?

The first time no, the second time yes but not being that mechanically minded only saw it was there, not really understanding how good/bad it was.
What happened was when we first turned the engine over, the injector on #5 was leaking out of the top due to a crack. This was the injector supplied with the engine by the "wrecker".
The owner had some other injectors which we then swapped out, but these were old.
One thing I am getting good at, is plenum pulls on an NA, did it three times yesterday LoL
I felt it had to be as Rob260 has suggested, either a stuck open injector or a faulty seal but wanted to check if there could have been alternate causes as well.
    So PP #4 coming up.
    Thanks for your help.

If you are going to this much trouble pressure-test the fuel rail assy before you reassemble it

I have had quite a few texts from the young fellow and hopefully he has given you the heads up on all of the content.
I am leaning towards the injector seals or the seal in the inlet manifold which are a special square section type. Maybe even swap over the FPRV
However it is hard to diagnose over the mobile phone!

    Hydrolocked cylinder checked?

So when you removed the sparkplug and cranked the engine it was it fuel that was expelled? Is this correct?
