Now it's the gearbox....

Well, well, well....why am I not surprised?? After a complete engine remove and re-build, auto transmission now will not engage gear!! I know the Zed is known for it's recalcitrant ways, but this is getting ridiculous!! Removed transmission pan and replaced gasket after minor leaks (?) but car still won't engage forward gears. Car will reverse but no forward motion....
After this does anyone know what the next Zed 'trick/s' is likely to be? Just thought I'd start to get prepared for it's next little "try this on for size" stunt...!!
In the meantime, any thoughts as to why no-go....??

Yeah, thanks Madcow....researched and surprised at fluid level required (7.7lt) but correct quantity was replaced. Just no forward engagement of gears nor movement of car....????

    try

Try to do a manual diagnostic on the auto tranny. There is a write up on here somewhere explaining how to do it, by turning key on and off, changing gears and then reading/counting the flashes of the engine light.
    might help :)

possibly...check that the o ring on the filter is seated correct...also the filter is sitting flush and hasn't dropped during gasket replacement.

Nothing, guys...thanks anyway. Car will actually move in reverse, but won't select any forward gears. Transmission worked OK before previous drama with engine timing and engine rebuild. Now engine works fine but no gearbox motion....

Have you checked the fluid level on the dipstick with the gearbox in park and the engine running?

Did you remove gearbox when you did the rebuild.
