probably going to part out my Z things like recaros, ebc, the lot. things like the transmission tho, I've not got the tools for that. guys who've done it, what's the best option? not so keen on a backyard job and spending weeks slaving over it.

if anyone's interested in buying the whole thing you'd get

    oem recaros
    new front end and resprayed
    $4k advan 18x10 inch 1 piece wheels 2yrs old
    clear tail lights
    turbo smart ebc

I guess it depends if you want to give it away (wreckers won't give you much for it) or actually make some cash back on it. I'd conservatively estimate you'd probably make 4x the cash back on it parting it out yourself vs selling it to the wreckers. Being it's not running you'd probably make at least double the cash back vs selling it complete. The difference will pay for a lot of tools.

Would be a shame to see another zed parted out though. Would be a bigger shame to see it go to a wreckers to make all the profit out of it.

although I agree with that, I can't think of any local (Gold Coast) buyers for the auto transmission or exhaust 2+2 and shipping these things just isn't worth it. There were zeds parted out on the Gold Coast years ago but the amount of zed owners here has really declined.

    Hey McLovin,

If you're parting it out I'll take those rear tail lights and more than likely a number of other odds and ends (mine's a 2+0 but I don't think that'll affect the tail lights).

Are you able to PM me a price for the tail lights to begin with?
I'm in Brissy so happy to cruise down and wrench on it with you to get what I need.

    Cheers mate,
    Mark

hey mate, at this point in time I'm hoping to sell it as the whole car. I don't have the tools or time to take the whole car apart. I've lowered the price to $5500 for the lot as you'd make a lot more than that taking it apart. I'm open to offers price wise.. the wheels should sell for $2000 alone, I bought them new myself from advan Japan for $1000 per wheel without tyres. there's no rust on body panels and the front bar, bonnet are new they've been on the road a total of 2 weeks...

    some extra photos

top bunch were taken Christmas week a few weeks ago
enjoy the photos I out my soul into this car

Sure it's only skipped 1 tooth? If that's the case, tis likely that no damage has been done. Refitted the belt and done a compression test?

according to the mechanic that's what it is. he seemed absolute about it.

Kawasakirider was running 1 tooth out for a while, until we rectified it at magicmike's tech day. Admittedly, it is a non tolerance motor, but 1 tooth should be easy enough to rectify. You confident in pulling the belt and reinstalling? Following up with a comp test should give an absolute diagnosis

I'm not confident in doing that myself no. I've not messed with a timing belt before. years of hanging out here has led me into thinking its a bastard job to get right on our cars. he said it he got it started and the noise was terrible and that he pulled the timing belt covers off to check.

Mechanics are generally idiots when it comes to the z... Hold a tech day and check her out

Yep! And one tooth out it will still run. You may be lucky, I have heard of cases where a new belt is put on and all runs ok. Worth a shot.

hey chrispy, what could I realistically expect price wise for Gavin wood to repair the engine? new valves, timing belt and? also should I expect damaged conrods and pistons/piston rings too? I'm guessing $5000?

    anything else I should expect?

    thanks

thinking I'll fix it then sell.

Be cheaper to buy the late model TT motor from the member parting a z out down the coast, then organise a tech day to swap it over

plenty of zeds run with 1 tooth off by accident not a big deal. do a compression test if your that worried it will tell you what you looking at !!!

My old black 2+2 TT was a tooth out and no real issues just made it hard getting the timing right. As all the others have said, get a compression test done, also have you heard this " horrible noise " the mechanic spoke about ? .

alright thanks for all the input everyone. I'll get a compression test done asap. I never heard the noise, the car wouldn't wouldnt start while I had it.

Check the cambelt timing before bothering with the comp test.

As for cost to fix, hard to say....

According to the members facebook post he's now pulled the motor and torn the motor apart. Has valve damage (apparently).

Doesn't know how to do a cam belt but can pull a motor and strip it to bits lol

Given the fact you blocked me on Facebook, I'll try again....

You said on FB you've pulled the motor out and it's all stuffed. That may or may not be incorrect, I don't know...

However, you said that the mechanic got it started BEFORE he checked the timing. This means that the valves and the pistons weren't hitting each other at the time as the car was able to turn over... You may be lucky and the valves may not be bent.

If the timing is out, it will sound horrible...

Pull the covers off and have a look. Reset it and try again.

    You have nothing to lose.
