Just got a walbro 485 from coz.

got a pump from the shelf I was gonna install it into then do a swap over. I have not touched the pump in the car yet...

I noticed the OEM pump has a long hose going down to the pickup sock. does the walbro need the same thing? I cant see the sock going straight onto the pump being able to reach the bottom of the tank?

    Any suggestions?

Someone will chime in I'm sure, I can't remember mine but I know we used the stock cradle.

The Walbro needs to be positioned in the exact spot as the OEM pump, which is significantly larger.
When I did mine the hose from the pump outlet to tank plate was a bit longer.
Just measure the stock setup once it's out and then fit up the Walbro to suit.

2 seaters have a hose off the pump that the stock filter goes onto, while in 4 seaters, the filter just sits on the bottom of the pump.

I installed my Walbro 400 last week, I reused the rubber from the original pump, just cut and clamped it over the Walbro. You can see it sits quite low with the original rubber, this is so it sits in essentially the stock location. The filter isn't on in the photo, but you get the idea.

Ah I see so you made the pump sit lower to compensate?

I was gonna use the OEM suction tube but couldn't work out how to get the filter onto the hose.

Exactly, just made it sit lower.

Can't you just slip the filter with the tube onto the Walbro?

I can fit the tube. But can't fit the new filter to the tube.

I don't really want to run the old filter. I'll take another look tonight.

Mine is also exactly the same as Dean's.
Pump must sit lower so the pickup can get to the bottom of the tank otherwise you will find yourself stuck on the side of the road with 15 or so litres of fuel that the pump can't get to.

Maybe buy a new stock filter and use that with the Walbro? Keep in mind the original hose probably isn't E85 safe, so I'd replace the filter and supply hose with a suitable replacement.

Are we referring to the filter sock at the bottom of the pump? If so why can't you put it on?
It should be the very last thing to go on the pump before it goes into the tank.
Have you removed the cap of the bottom? Once the filter sock goes on there is no removing it of the pump, if you do so you must buy a new filter only goes on once.

He must have a 2 seater and wants to put the new filter on the old hose that connects to the fuel pump.

Got it largely finished today. I did it the same was as stock. Managed to build an arm for the sock to go on. Before I go get it tuned and do any hardcore driving I'll check it again.
