I got as far as where he says the tuner told him "the adjustable cam gears are a waste of money" Firstly when the engine is built the cams need to be dialed in as accurately as possible so you know exactly where the cams are in relation to the crank, once this is established you can advance or retard them to suit power requirements & various other things you come across while tuning a grunter turbo engine. I had a customer with a big pile of good gear in his car, it should make bucket loads more power than what it does currently, it's downfall is the cams have never been dialed in correctly. That engine runs significantly more fuel to one bank than it does to the other because the cam timing is incorrect. It is literally the difference between ~400kws on a hub dyno to ~500kws on a hub dyno. Sure a couple of other changes but the cam timing is a BIG part of it. Are adjustable gears worth it? Depends on the rest of the build but from what I see in your other threads I would say potentially. How much power do you want to make, what do you want to do with the car? what cams are you going to run? Stock cam gears pretty much shit themselves with stronger valve springs & aggressive cams - we all know that. BDE gears will deal with that a hell of a lot better than stock but do have some limits. Need more info .....
This is a very good point. I did mine and one bank was out a surprisingly large amount. Forgot about it until then.
I have BDE intake cam gears with heavy duty valve springs. Standard S1 manual cams. I just bought Tekky's gears Something about those "tuners" trying them one way then the other doesn't give me confidence in their knowledge
