    Hi everyone,

This is a follow up from my previous posts on exhausts, I have narrowed down my conclusions and I am now interested in knowing what your thoughts are, on what you believe is the better exhaust system and why, also what you think sounds better as well (especially if you have owned two or more of the systems mentioned).

So far many have said that each one individually has a good sound, but no one has compared one against the other as yet either. If there is another system that is similar in appearance that I have missed, please let me know, so I can include it as well.

I currently have quad DTM square upswept tips but want to change them ? I am going to go for a 2.25in cat back for a TT - all the following systems look similar in appearance and are based off long style quad tip oval muffler. I however have not seen these exhausts up close, only in pictures.

Worth noting is that the price is approximately the same for the Labree and Magnaflow systems and the AMS is slightly cheaper

The options and my offhand general comments are:

    1. Magna flow 14816 (NOTE: 1st link shows the actual muffler and the 2nd link shows a similar catback system)

Supposedly these are well regarded in general as one of the best exhaust/ mufflers.

    2. Labree
    http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=323084&highlight=labree

These look good, especially in the pictures of black beasts car

    3. AMS
    http://www.amsmotorsports.com/shop/ind/300zx-z32/exhaust/ams-2-5-300zx-z32-s-s-cat-back-exhaust.html

These are slightly cheaper and have burnt style tips for effect.

Appreciate all opinions, thoughts and comments as I am ready to buy, based upon what is suggested in this post.

    Thanks and Regards

AMS looks the only option(given the current price). They have similar tips to my Veilside(single tips not dual without the blue tinge).
Their regular price puts them dearer than the others, so the discounted price is a steal, IMHO.:zlove:

Appears from your profile that you have a 2+2.

The AMS system is for a 2+0. Are you prepared to do a lot of modifying?

The Magnaflow is practically exactly what I have on my zed. i just bought the parts separately and welded them up.

    for a 2+2

I would go SZ /LABREE if you want a direct fit bolt on with mandrel bends .

My SZ exhaust uses micro perforated cores in the mufflers .. while the labree uses the spiral cores .

I was going to make my own custom exhaust but it would have more joins ,cost more and not perform any better .

(I only make custom upgrades if something isn't available off the shelf)

Exhaust pipe is usually measured by OD and muffler by ID. Typically the wall thickness of exhaust tubing would be 0.65", 0.49" or 0.35".

A exhaust pipe with a 2.25" ID and a 2.5" OD would have a wall thickness of 0.125" (3 mm). I doubt anyone would use exhaust pipe with a 0.125" in a catback system.

The Labree is available in 2.25" and 2.5".

The Magnaflow mufflers in the link have a 2.25"

    The AMS system is 2.5".

Thanks everyone for your comments - appreciated!
I will consider all points raised further

    Hey DinoZ
I spoke to the AMS website and they told me I could get the 2+2 in four weeks so they must have a 2+2 system version available.

    Regards to all

    From AMS - for info

Hi - here's the email I got from AMS for everyone's info since some are not aware of the 2+2 system being available
    Cheers............

    Hello,

We do indeed have 2+2 catbacks, same as the one's we sell on 3zc just for a 4 seater 300zx. Not sure how anyone on the forum would know what we have and what we don't have :)

The shipping price we gave you was if sent on a skid to Australia, we are planning to send another skid in about 3-4 weeks or so. If we go through with that skid, then we will offer you that discounted shipping otherwise it's impossible to offer that type of shipping cost as it's normally around $400-500 to ship a catback over.

Exhaust is $699 as they are longer, have more bends and use more material then a 2 seater catback. They are also being made in limited runs, which costs more money. There is no real market for 2+2 catbacks, but we decided to make a limited run for you guys.

$699+$150 Shippping. All in Canadian funds. We'll reserve one for you, send us an email in about two weeks from now and we'll have a better idea in regards to the skid. Wait 2 weeks or so before making payment, so we can confirm that we are in fact sending a skid over. It is 90% certain that we are though.

    Thanks for you interest
