Nice pics, Martin. I looked through them all on facebook :)

Alex, the new wheels look great. What specs are they (including tyres)?

What a great day! Thanks Mick for organising a great cruise and for making me a coffee :D

To Ross & Kristy, that was very nice of you to invite us all to your place for BBQ and fundraising event. By the looks of how quick the food went down, I'd say it was a success.

That Rod Hadfield is a character, what an awsome, down to earth gentleman he is. Could listen to his stories all day..

Great to see some familiar faces again and a few new ones for me.. Great bunch of ppl!

You should see me today, red face, neck, soldiers - got sunbrunt nicely with the roof off all day lol

    Thanks,
    Evan

And everyone laughed at me for using sun cream :p I'm all good! Except for where my hair is shaven on the sides and back, just a bit red ;)

You can if you really want, when I lived in Brazil I knew a few people much blacker than you who managed to get sun burned, did not look comfortable at all.

First of all, thanks for organising this Mick top job as usual :) and thanks Ross and Kristy for hosting the BBQ and sharing your home with us all :)

Absolutely fantastic day...was great catching up with the usual crew and meeting a few new people :)

Unfortunately there was a break-down, as usual...but we did manage to limp it back to Ross' house...I hope you made it home safely Dean :)

..now the big question...how much did we raise for Eric and Kylie?

Craig will hopefully load up some photos later in the week if he gets a chance, and hopefully the Gopro footage too :D

...oh and Flash I think we need to see a photo of how bad your sunburn is...you were rocking an awfully bad sunnies tan in the middle of the day...today should be a ripper of one LOL

    I doubt it dude...

big cruises will always start early, to get in as much driving time as possible. Night people, or people who have a big night the night before will just have to get up early like the rest of us :):):):)

  12. Flash

Yeh agree Mark, if I can push myself to get up early on a Sunday, no reason anyone else can't :p

...& Ren, I'm not subjecting the forums to my sunburnt mug, it hurts just looking in the mirror

Looking forward to seeing some more pics!

Easier said than done, in my caffeine drinking days maybe, but short on sleep = feel like shit = not a fun day then, done it before, wish I was in my teens again, then wouldn't be a problem

Thanks everyone for coming along and making it a great day.

Special thanks to Ross & Kristy for their hospitality with the BBQ lunch, very much appreciated :)

    FUND RAISING SCOREBOARD
I reckon we're not finished yet, in fact we barely got started on the day.
But so far so good, the BBQ lunch and museum visit raised $657.50 from 36 people ( 22 cars? )
$180 was from the museum visit, the rest was from lunch.
That's the gross amount before my expenses for the food & drinks, but I'm donating that to the cause anyway.
WELL DONE GUYS & GALS!

I'd planned to do some auctioning and tin rattling after lunch, as well as taking orders and payments for new calendars.
Then it all turned into an emergency Tech day with people scattered from one end of Ross's property to the other.
And then the museum visit ran way over time.
Wish I'd been more on the ball with the fund raising but hey we had a great time.

    Back to business.

CALENDARS - Although we didn't get a chance to auction any, or take orders for new ones, I hope you guys got a look
at the samples. Pretty good eh? To buy a 2013 fund raiser calendar, see HERE
    Not many left, be quick.
Still got the set of 4 consecutive calendars, not sure what to do with them now.

STICKERS - A huge oops on my part. Evil Twin ( Ben ) had sent them here late last week but they got lost in my office until today :eek:
They were to be awarded to everyone who made a donation over & above the cost of lunch and the museum.
We can still do this. Make a donation directly - see HERE - then PM me your address and the transaction number, I'll send the stickers out.

For those members who didn't make it to the cruise, here's your 2nd chance to contribute.
How much to donate? No upper or lower limits on this, all donations are welcome

Pics of Alex, I can feel a caption coming on...

Alex, kudos to you for getting in the driver's seat of Rod's Commodore and getting him talking about the
salt lake speed attempts. I could have listened to him all day.
He's so laid back and dry and matter-of-fact, love his style.

Took some pics of you while you were in the car. I know you have a great sense of humour, hope you
get a laugh out of the captions on these pics :D

    hi guys
First i wanted to say thanks to everyone for helping an idiot that decided to go on a long trip with a car that knew its not in a good shape.
It did get me back home, had to keep it under 2000 rpm.
few times at the start i went over 4000, lots of oil spray out of the dipstick ,stuck half way in, and immediately the car filled up with smoke.
I actually run out of the car the first time on the freeway i thought its on fire.
There is lots of things i need to fix on the car now and i am determned to do it.
I can use some help to manage it.
I can do lots of work on in by myself but eventually i will need someone to go over it and do a complete check.
i need a new dipstick complete with the pipe. i cut the old one trying to seal the hole so i can drive without suffocating. New plugs for the injectors and coil packs. New ptu unit , series 2 i was told.
Also i discovered another problem that could have been fatal, every time i fill up the tank i got petrol leaking on the floor at the back of the car, i dont know if its a hose connecting the filler to the tank, i will check tomorrow.
Dean said hes got some parts for me so give me a call if you do please.
Also alex if you can please give me a number for the mechanic so i can organise that and then roadworthy.
Even after all the trouble it was worth coming out there and meeting everyone and the museum was awesome.
    thanks again

My Pics and story!! (LOTS OF PICS)

As already stated, the Goldfields 2013 cruise was an awesome day!!! I got a heap of pics, so I've tried to post the ones that best sum up the day without getting too repetitive (yeah right). I've also added a little story here and there about the day. Enjoy reading if you wish. I don't think I've written this much since writing the old writeups for the Jedi Tech days that I used to host at my old house. But there are only a few members left here who would remember those. Anyway, I digress. As we all know, this just wasn't a cruise, but rather a cruise with a purpose. And I really hope that we raised some good money for Eric and Kylie. Best wishes guys.

Well, Melbourne weather has certainly not disappointed us this summer!! And the cruise day was no exception!! Maybe Melbourne should lose the title of having constant crappy weather when compared to the other states :).

For the Melb crew, the day started at the good ol Todd rd servo, where many of our cruises seem to start :) I didn't get any pics from here as I was busy trying to keep track of cars and decide when everyone had arrived. My job was to get everyone to the 2nd meet up point at the Caltex Servo just opposite Sankey reserve in Gisborne. A nice 50 odd minute drive down the freeway, with about 15-20 or so Zeds in convoy. Here we would meet up with MickW and the other Zedders...

So once at the Caltex servo (well, the rear of the servo, I started snapping pics).

From the meet up point, we went for a nice casual but very scenic drive up to Mt Macedon. And here we crashed the "Rich Boys" car club. Upon entering the car park with our noisy 25 (approx) Zeds, we were surprised to find an awesome collection of Italian and German engineering (and one 350z which must have been the poor guy in the group). The mid 40's - 50's, very muscled and tanned gentleman (clearly you have to be beautiful to drive expensive sports cars) didn't seem too impressed with our invasion, as we had no choice but to park right next to them due to the size of the car park. Nevertheless they accepted us as best they knew how; basically ignoring us and continuing on with their conversations. One guy was apparently taking a new Ferrari for a test drive during the week. And much to my amusement, I did hear one guy mutter to his muscle bound mate while pointing at our Zeds "These are the type of cars you drive when you're young. Then you grow up and drive cars like ours". I took that as a compliment, even if it was a passive aggressive statement :).

Anyway, unlike the rich boys, I think we can all be honest and say that we were in awe of their cars and so proceeded to rip our cameras out, wander over and start taking pics. They didn't seem to mind. They seemed like nice enough blokes.

Anyway, enough with the fancy cars. I gotta say though, even parked next to these expensive beauties, the Zed still looks beautiful and timeless. Well, to my eyes anyway. Cudos to those Japanese designers so many years ago...

After the stop at Mt Macedon we said goodbye to the Lambo's, Maserati's and Porches and headed for Castlemaine. Food time at Ross's house!!!

Unfortunately, forum member dean (no not bRACKET, new member dean) had an issue with his Zed. It decided to turn into a kettle and make awesome cups of green coolant on the side of the freeway. I pulled over with him and called ahead for help. To the rescue came Renee and Craig with many liters of water and some tools. We got the car running again, and limped it to Ross's house which wasn't too far away. And once there we had a mini tech day. As you do.

Once at Ross's house (thanks for the awesome BBQ guys), some of the members got stuck into deans car. To cut a long story short, the guys who recently built the engine did a spectacular job (insert sarcasm here). We manged to get the car going again and also replaced the TPS which was dead. As far as I know, the car didn't overheat again and I can only assume that he made it home ok later that evening.

Zed invasion. We're pretty good at this now...

Abz can never have a sun tan cos he's black. I'm not being racist.

The entrance to Ross's man shed. Car bits everywhere, cars everywhere. A mans dream. Oh, and also a great place to get some shade.

After some good ol fashion BBQ and a mini tech day, we said good bye (although Ross did come with us) and headed for the Hadfields Hotrod Museum. Wow, what an awesome place!

Of course, we cant just arrive at a place without taking even more photos of our Zeds.

the young ones (and some old) looking for shade :)

We were greeted by this beauty before entering inside..

We met Rod Hadfield and proceeded to head inside where the awesomeness started.

Apparently the largest collect of root beer bottles in Australia (if not the world?? cant remember).. This was only one wall
    [IMG]

Anyway, onto the cool stuff with wheels and engines..

This monster is built from scratch. The metal work all hand beaten. And the prototype was a small toy that was made by Rods dad. Powering this beast is a 27 litre tank engine. Torque anyone?

This is Rods salt lake speed racer. Currently the fastest vehicle in Australia. The maximum speed they have reached is 483 kilometers thus far. Lets just say its a very very very very modified VS commodore. Although the only thing VS about it these days is the shell. And it comes with NOS :).

No Alex, you cant drive it home...

    Some other great cars...

Rat rod anyone? Still with original paint...

This car was built by Rod over 20 years... what an engine...

I forget the details, but only 6 (or 7?) of these utes remain in the world...

The first Australian ute designed by Lewis Bandt. And this is the original!!

    Many trophies... on many walls...

And looky what Cam found in the Museum (I think it was Cam). Its our ancestor!!

The obligatory Alex shot which I seem to get every cruise..

Anyone want a 572 Chev motor for their Zed?

After a long day, it was time to head back to our dusty Zeds and head for home..

Once again, big thanks to MickW, Ross and Rod Hadfield. It was an awesome day and great to catchup with fantastic people. And if you've read this far, you deserve a big thanks as well and you're totally awesome.

    Cheers
