    I have a 1990 2+0 TT Slicktop being restored at a repairer.
I gave the same repairer a 1994 2+0 slicktop NA parts car (he has stored at another location).
Apparently the 1990 car needs better/new rubber weatherstrips on the doors. The repairer is telling me that the weatherstrips on the 1994 car are totally incompatible with the 1990 car re the difference in seatbelt achor points / pillars.
Is this BS ??? (I'm thinking he's being lazy, doesn't want to go and check and wld pref I spend $250 + shipping with Coz for new ones rather than swap over the used).

Yes about the sea belt anchors, can't see how that'd effect the mouldings though...

mouldings are external and no different, the only difference is the internal door card as the seat belt and anchor point are moved to the b pillar.

Hard to know exactly what is going on, obviously both JDM cars, FAST parts system says that all weather strips, as in the rubber strip that goes all the way around the door, is the same on all 2 seaters and compatible all years.

He is telling you he needs new strips, I would provide them, he may of stuffed the other ones up removing them or wants new parts for whatever reason.

If this is the only thing he is "stinging" you on it might be easier to go along rather then call him incompetent or a liar.

But certainly keep an eye on the situation.

    These ?

Yes Brisz those are the rubber weatherstrips -- he obviously hasn't gone and looked at the parts car --- (also busted the infill panel ...and lost new parts ) ...

To the best of my knowledge the strips are exactly the same.

If they are ripped off, rather than carefully removed, all the holes in the rubber edge will rip open and need to be repaired.

Any parts lost should be replaced by the repairer. If he broke the 3ird brakelight infill panel then he should also replace it, he needs to go to nissan and buy a new one, about $375 from memory. Thats assuming it was not cracked to start with as they are VERY fragile. make sure you are taking photos every time you see the car and everything is in writing.

With the 94 parts car make sure you get some of the S2 parts such as the AC swapped over as its a good upgrade and costs $250 to buy the bits later. Also things like 94 doors should already have factory reo bars in while the '90 model will have aftermarket ones fitted, may be worth swapping over also(+s2 door looms have illuminated power window switches and so on...).

From the limited info provided here i would be taking both cars away from him and finding a decent repairer. Any work done is deducted from parts broken/lost and the adjustment either to you or to him would legally still need to be paid.

that said, when stripping down a whole Zed there will always be some plastic clips somewhere on the car that break due to age. Lost parts however, there is no excuse. dont let him push you around. :)

You need to consider the situation in context, the amount of work he is doing versus his stuff ups, if is screwing up everything he touches RUN, if he is doing huge amounts of work and there are just a few issues and he is being honest and charging reasonably given the situation, what can you say.

Was the infill panel new, and did he pay for it ?

Were the lost parts anything major ?

I wouldnt blame anyone for snapping an Infillpanel. If they are not new they are exceedingly brittle and almost impossible to remove in one pce. I have tried on a few occaisions to pull old panels and have busted almost every one. Even knowing where all the clips are and being as carefull as possible. UV scews them as they age.

Also, The door rubbers on almost all these cars are now rooted. He could replace them with more old crap. There is still no guarrantee they wont leak.

You are spending god knows how much money doing this work. IMO dont cheap out.
