Any ideas why the speedo sensor is not working? I'm fitting leader gears shortly, I would like the speedo to be as accurate as possible after the install.
OK, so you replaced the sensor and the gear? Shame about the cluster. At least you've eliminated one more weak link.
Yes new gear and sensor. I'll try resoldering all the joints but if it still plays up ill be looking for another cluster.
Not much to update on. I got the speedo working with a new cluster..yay I gave up getting haltech boost control to work and installed a gizzmo IBC i had in the 4x4 but was still having big boost control problems. Overboosting in the midrange and under boosting up top. So I bought a new Gizzmo MSB that has closed loop control. Still no good! Pulled the dumps a took the separator out, controls boost pretty good now 23/24 psi. I might drop it back a bit though until I get better intercoolers. Minimum boost is 12.5psi now before it was around 18psi and all over the place. So in conclusion the split dumps are shit. Ill be getting bellmouths made when I feel like throwing some money at it. I can get get it dyno'd now that these issues have been sorted.
If you have boost creep with the split dumps it means you are moving decent amount of air at low boost . (underboosting up top doesnt make sense) looks like some good numbers coming
I think it was overboosting at peak torque the boost ramps up really quick, 24psi down to 18psi. I figured I could just turn up the boost like you did but it made it overboost even worse 26psi down to 20psi. Need to get good intercoolers and 3 inch exhaust for the big numbers I think. The magnaflow 2.5 inch mufflers are a lot less than that when you look in the back of them.
I never had a problem of over boosting . once it hit 21 psi where the waste gate dump pipe could handle the air ,it hit held solid to redline . over boost is another issue .
Don't bin the old cluster. It would indicate that there is some bad solders that were causing you the grief. A trained eye should be able to fix it
Your right I did some more driving today and the problem is back. Maybe I'm loosing some air somewhere I need to get hold of a compressor. Yes AMS dumps, if it turns out I have boost leaks I'll take back that they suck.
I have AMS split flange 3" expansion dumps too and I also have a pressure drop 20-17.5 ... Very thinking to change to bell mouths later on
Bad news, took it to the drag strip and it spun a bearing in third gear at 7000 rpm. Not sure why, my bearing clearances were spot on. I measured with mircometers and double checked with plastigauge.
Pulled the sump and girdle and it spun 2 rod bearings main bearings were okay. So I guess I'm looking at new oil pump, rods, crank grind and a re-balance. I don't have anywhere to work on it so it will just have to sit broken for now and to who knows when.
