Do i need to change the targas themselves for aus spec targas? what kind of price does this conversion cost, thanks
Why would you want to? Car has to be unlocked to get to the release mechanism. If your worried about people undoing the release while you are traveling, you don't want them in the car in the first place.
No all z32 targa are the same all thats is missing is the key barrel and a small half moon like bracket with 2 screws from the jspecs. Its not a jdm thing either it is only available on auspecs and us spec cars.
Like adamzx said, you just need the barrels, little plastic bits, and the handle surround trims. Find somebody wrecking an aus spec and you can get a complete set of matching ignition, door, hatch and targa locks.
No, it's been converted. You can keep your original glass and painted exterior trim, just swap the internals.
Have to bear in mind though...you're going to need a key just for the targas. Where as on an Aus-spec, the single (titanium ) key opens doors, targas, glovebox, as well as ignition. I really don't see the point though. The only reason you want locks is if you have some sort of douchebag friend who would take off your roof for the lols. It's hardly going to help you steal the car, unless the window is already down. I did used to lock them in Summer, when I had the window down a bit to vent some heat. Just in case some smartass who knows how they work decided to remove them for fun. But is it that big a deal?
I've had my Aus-spec for 10 years, and almost never lock the targa tops. The car has been broken into once, by smashing the pax-side window, which was cheaper to replace than a targa. On the other hand, when my son had his Z31, one of his "friends" released the pax targa while the car was moving, which hit the ground and smashed, costing over $300 to replace (in 2001 dollars). If you have idiot friends, fit the locks. Otherwise, don't bother.
