hey guys, as some of you know i'm selling my car. (http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=316291). I would like to know what you guys think its worth? I have it up for $6500 atm but all i've had was tyre kickers and low ballers, had one person offer a fair amount of money only to return and offer $500 less a day later. Engine itself is in very good condition, compression tested 180-186 each pot when i bought it. Obviously the paint needs a bit of work but is that what would put people off? I'm kicking myself atm because back in november i had an offer of $7500 and i didn't take it :(

So in your HONEST opinions what do you think? I'm all ears, i don't get offended so say what you like, i need feedback from you guys :)

Its an NA, therefore not worth much ;) least it is a clean one. Might be a nice donor for a tt swap :p

Z32's which are worn-out mechanically & or cosmetically can cost just SO much to fix-up, I reckon it's fair enough that most of them sell for next to nothing & personally, I'll be glad to see all the worn-out & neglected Z32's gone / parted-out.

The really good ones and 'pretty good' ones do still sell for good money - but not if you're in a hurry... and probably not if you're hoping to sell for a fellow forum member!

Here's a perfect example - I had an auto 2+2 TT advertised for $17800. Naturally I had loads of idiots come around & plent of seemingly genuine buyers who ended up offering less than $10k... Took about two months before a guy turned up who'd never owned or even driven one before but he'd always promised himself that someday he'd own one. Not being mechanically minded and being too busy to stuff around with a potentially unreliable, cheap Z, he was only looking to buy an all-round 'nice one'.

Mine ticked all the boxes - sold it for $16,500 & that was less than 18mths ago.

    Best of luck.

Maybe it's the camera, but paint looks a bit faded and yuck.

K's will be perceived to be high by a lot of people.

I don't think the price is unreasonable, but with z's being the price they are these days it seems to be a buyers market :(

Where are you advertising? If it's only forums where you are also talking about all the drag racing and whatnot, that might put some people off. I must be getting old, but I'd pay more money for a clean standard one than a slightly less than mint modded zed.

Anyone would look at it and think 'needs a paint job, that'll cost me'. The cover of the book always speaks volumes, no matter how good the story is.

I wonder how many people get your avatar this time?

One of the problems is this -
Most Zed buyers want a car which has never been pushed hard but is still a potential world beater, after they themselves have done something
to it which makes it shake off it's previous sedate history and suddenly come alive. So they want it both ways :p

You have one of the quickest N/A's on the Forum, in some ways it's a desireable car to buy.
But maybe some potential buyers are hanging back for fear that you've pushed it too hard. Which is a catch-22 for sure, all you've done is
    proved that it goes hard.

Also, and this is kindly meant - to improve your sale price you'd need to put some work into the cosmetic side of things.
Nem, I saw your Zed ( at the Sydney Tech day which fizzled out :p ) so I'm not just going on the pics you posted.
Front bar needs prettying up, then work backwards from there. Try to look at the car with a buyer's eyes, and ignore the fact that
it pulls like a train. Buyers won't know that just from looking at it. As any Chef will tell you, " the first bite is with the eye "

Let it's performance be a deal clincher to anyone who is interested enough in it's looks to take it for a drive :)

Yep front bar is in need of work, the only problem i have is if i decide to fix the front bar and paint the hatch it won't be worth selling and i may aswell do a conversion on the damn thing. I know what you mean with people wanting a car that isn't thrashed etc but in all honesty they all have been at one point or another although some worse then others. The way i see it is, if it doesn't sell for what i want or the car i'm looking at buying sells, i'm doing a conversion on it. I can get the hatch and front bar painted fairly cheap, but finding time for it between work and tafe is a pain seeing as its my daily driver.

    Long Winded Response TL;DR

in all honesty, and not to offend
its just my opinion on it

it looks too stock. its nothing special to look at and will need a respray for it to look any good. its sitting a bit high and the rims are very basic after markets which dont do it any justice. its an na which brings the price down and even for an na it doesnt have the fanciest sounding exhaust.

if i was looking at buying it i would be thinking

    car 5k
paint 2k at least or DIY
needs lowered springs and new rims and tyres to make the ride height look appealing so theres at least 2k

the problem is that paint looks far beyond the help of a good cut and polish. the interior looks good with the sports seats and custom trim but then again red is not everyones cup of tea so reduces the amount of prospective buyers that would get a huge thrill out of buying it for that.

the problem is its a customised Z, unless you find someone who has similar tastes (ie. the interior treatment and multi coloured engine bay) the market might not be there.

your market is people who like the colour red, or are colour blind and have the ability to respray or know someone who does. and from a design point of view the engine bay looks mismatched.

the plus side is it looks like a very straight z so its a good quality car body wise. i paid 5k for mine with a rwc and that was a mile off how good this car is but i paid twice what i should have.

after owning my na which originally had a screwed engine before it got fixed and worked like a charm, i dont think that engine sounds like it is reving right. i had a much sharper more responsive feel when i reved the engine, but not to cause offense but yours sounds more like a really stock 90's commodore v6. it doesnt sound like a performance v6 and when the na's are tuned right with a good exhaust they can sound really great.

its a good Z, but its not a great Z. i think for 6.5 you can get some tidier z's. and i'd be looking more along the lines of a semi stock gunmetal grey with close to immaculate paint for 6.5, of which there were a few around when i bought my crap box white one. but i learnt my lesson.

whoever buys it is going to throw at least 5k at it to make it come close to a great looking z like most of the good ones on the forum. thats the difference between owning a restored street machine that turns heads and driving a car like this one that you will notice, but you will still look at it and think it was 20 years old. with new paint and new rims and a nicer ride hieght you can cut 10 years off how old they look.

long story short, it looks like its had its day.

*** just noticed is has over 200ks on the clock so its a well run in z. that means more wear on all suspension and all other componants which means all the little annoying things that will want to start playing up for whoever buys it. you can still pick up z's with under 140k on the clock for 6.5.

6 - 6.5 would be the going rate from my point of view. spend some time respraying it and you might get 7 or 8 but then i dont need to tell you the cost and time involved will negate the extra value you would get from doing so.

if it makes you feel any better, i've just about spent 16000 on my z and i coudl still barely sell it for 2000 as it sits. even after all the work im about to do to is i wont get half as much as what i've spent on it back. and its got a new rebuilt engine with over 300kw, will have new paint, 19"rims and brand new tyres, brand new TT gear box etc etc, its practically a full rebuild. I still wouldnt expect 8 or 9k if i tried to sell it which would have me pegged at a 7000$ loss. but i couldnt buy a car as good as what i will have for that price which is why i still want to do it.

if you've spent 12000 on this car and its worth 6000 then thats about right.
    thats why we are stupid
thats why we are called enthusiasts.
thats why we spend money on cars which most logically minded people would say arent worth it

    but arent they just.. awesome

If the car has not been sold then your asking too much.

Has the motor been rebuilt? Has the transmission been rebuilt? Has the interior of the car had a classy upgrade? Has it had a respray?

Those for are like the price killers for old cars? Answer no and the sale price is often kaput.

Don't do it. Sell the NA for what you can get then buy a ready-to-go TT from a reputable Forum member. You'll save thousands in the long run, truly.

Cut your losses Nem, and move on. It would have been nice to go out in a blaze of glory by being the fastest NA on the Forum,
and maybe selling that NA at a premium price. But meh, as one door shuts another one always opens :)

Just about the most realistic post I have ever seen on this forum in recent times. Congratulations for being so outspoken(sometimes the truth really needs to hurt).

P.S. I knew this car back before it first got it's wild interior colouring(and it's odd Silver decals).
It was a good car then, but not everyones cup of tea now(only a Mother could love it ATM IMHO)and that is going to hugely affect the list of potential buyers(and/or price).
If it were mine, I would tidy it up and keep it forever.
Realistically it doesn't represent a huge potential monetary windfall at this point(and it will always be worth more to you than you can ever recoup).:zlove::zlove:

    lol,,,

looks too stock body wise. near stock ride height, original paint,

interior colour scheme is too custom.. and lots of odd bits and pieces of after market gear. and engine bay is a bit here and there. from a design point of view.

blue intercooler pipes on a red car :/
like i said, market to someone who is colour blind.

    no offence intended.

Regarding the paint, maybe it's worth taking the car to a professional detailer to see if he can give it a good cut back to try and bring back some of it's former glory?

I can get the hatch and front bar painted for under $500, just finding the time to do it is my problem.
