Hi friends, I am thinking of building 240Z with Vg30dett engine and 300zx gearbox. Yep thinking of combine the first Z with most powerful Z engine deliver by nissan yet. I do have twin-turbo 300zx which i love more than any other car. I also like the look of 240z and it looks lighter than z32. Amagine the power of z32 with the weight of 240z "its gonna fly, i think". Any thoughts guys and girls!! Has anybody done this before??? Any pro's and con's?? Thanks
yes I have done it But you cannot use a TT set up as the drivers side turbo will be in the wat of the steering arm, so you would either have to change the steering configuration ( real bitch) or use as I did a VG30 DET (out of a leopard, or cima). The passenger side rail needs a small trim and reweld, to have adequate clearance. not major and sump slightly modified. This way the engine will sit nice and low and will look as it was factory set up. use a R200 LSD dif and change the turbo to a high flowing T3/4 and you will be amazed at the torque it produces. You will need to up grade the brakes, hilux twin spots are a direct bolt up match but have larger bolt holes(small thing) and I cannot sorry remember which rear brakes(disc) set up I used. The car was rear ended by a truck and the roll cage saved me.(this also really helps with the stiffening of the car. Let me know if you need any further help
The 4 Ltr, all alloy Leyland P76/Rover/Oldsmobile V8 used to be the swap of choice some years ago. Approximately 100kg lighter than the Nissan/Datsun 2.6ltr straight six and an easy fit(not to mention that lovely V8 burble).:zlove::zlove::br:
Hhamm, Finding engine out of cima or leopard is hard. How about using the actual z32 turbo engine, but with only one big turbo and single exhuast. I mean, the two engine bays connects to one big turbo and it is easy to find z32 engine. Yep some pics of ur build will be very helpful. Want to see how it looks in the engine bay!!! Thanks
if you where going to go to all that trouble. I would put an LS1 in it. All the power and none of the turbo issues.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7w0Pvby9GEU Just do it. Always loved the 240x 2 seat shape. But a tall task finding them in good cond. That being said there is a guy in the ozdat forum that has a mint brown 260z. Asking 14k i think it was. Would sell all my cars for that one if i could. Closest thing to and in good cond. http://www.ozdat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=27085
leopard or cima engine are dime a dozen and cheaper than a zed dett engine have a search and you will find plenty of VG DET motors available more power than you need in a 240z I had only 202wkrw and 620nm torque which was low down. (2500rpm)
Yeh, but i dont want to make it mixed-bread lol!! Just want to keep it as Zed. Well if i dont want that much trouble, i could just buy a brand new V8!!! Money talks you know!!
Just the way i think. Love all the Zed's that nissan produce and dont want to ruin it by making it mixed-bread
It has been done but other motors are more suitable. But if that is what you want to do then set aside up to $50K to do it properly so that the car is worth something when you are finished and so you will have a decent car to be proud of and enjoy, been there done that and assuming you are handy around cars as well. My experience is with a VG30DET into a 280ZX and a friends 260Z with a RB30ET, all of which would fill a book which I am not about to write.
why not leave it as a straight six but RB26DETT from godzilla low down torque from two turbos fit in engine bay looks like a zed motor, but goes like tomorrow
Oh come on now.... 50 large?????? I did my VG30det/ute conversion "properly" for around 3 and a half grand INCLUDING my engine, programmeable EFI and W2A intercooling. Doesnt have to cost a bomb. I say convert away. Why not? L8r E
But it's not just the motor. Have to upgrade the diff, then the suspension, the brakes etc, etc. Then paint, a retrim, rust repair P) and what not. And not everyone can weld and fabricate stuff
