If you guys remember, not to long ago I posted a thread about inspecting a 300zx which was advertised on Gumtree, it was a 1990 Japspec Automatic NONTURBO.

So me and "Moulazx" (who I thank alot for taking me there and helping me out a load) went to inspect it and found the car had a few problems.

    These include:
1.Front Driver Window motor works, but window doesnt wind down, due to being picklocked.

2.TPS and IDLE are not the best, car idles at around 1k and TPS voltage is at 0.4 volts, needs to be higher but car hesitates more at ideal voltage.

3.Radiator coolant seems to leak due to a gasket leak in the coolant circuit, cant 100% recall this one.

    4. Auto transmission probably needs a service, seems to hesitate a little but kicksdown right and goes pretty good.

5.Mufflers are straight through at the rear and extremely loud from the inside when hitting it, need resonators and some rear sound deadening added.

6.Driver side targa moulding not the best, need to be replaced.

The car otherwise is in decent body and paint shape, doesnt seem to have been in any accidents, drives pretty well and brakes are good.

Me and the guy agrred to about 3k if I were to take the car, but I need to know if I should go for it or not. Maybe if I bought it, I could hold a BBQ and get a couple of guys to come over and have a go at fixing the small issues in the car.

    OPinions?

I say dont get it...save up a bit extra and get a good zed as your better off spending the extra money on a good zed instead of paying heaps more later on for a cheap zed...

Oh wow that red one looks really nice. Looks identical to the one we used to own, only difference was ours was manual. If i had 5k spare I'd get that one.

Also that white zed looks very aus spec to be written up as a jspec in the description.

But point of view is that for an extra couple of k. You could have such more of a car with less of the headaches. Cheap zeds are only ever really good for spares. Save the money man. But a nice one. Also give the ford a miss. Buy a $500 bunky for your daily duties. If you want a zed. Save for it :)

Yeah, the reason that I looked at the AU is cause all the small auto cars I found for sale seriously lack any grunt (ie. Civic auto, etc), and I only want to spend 3.5k tops. The Ford would be decent for a couple of months, the dual fuel would probably make it somewhat 30-40% cheaper hopefully, and I could sell it off for the same price later.

Dude instead of stuffing around with buying a car and then waiting to sell it and then getting new car...just save up a bit more and get a decent car and increase your 3.5g limit as your most likely going to get a box on 4 wheels...do the smart thing and save up and get a decent car or dont get a car at all :p

i would seriously do that if the job i recently got didnt involve delivery driving.
jst recently got a job as a delivery driver and dad doesnt wnt me to use his car as its relatively new and the job will wear it out.
and i dont mind a larger 4 door car for a while as summer is coming up and will be goin around with mates to differnt places and a larger 4 door would be good for it.
i guess we'll see for now

Zeds arent meant to be delivery cars lol zeds are classy cars that look good and that turns head...they have a monster within that emerges everytime you push the accelerator pedal...the only packages it should be carrying should be chicks (or guys :p whichever you prefer lol) around and showing them a good time so they will come back to your place :p

Especially in summer with a t-top zed you can take it off and enjoy the wind in your hair and peoples look as they dont know the car your in...if its for work like delivery driving...then get a ute or a station wagon with heaps of space to carry stuff around...if your after a luxury sports car that will love you if you love it then get a zed :)

Personally I would buy a ute if I were delivery driving. Just think of all the driveways you'll have to drive the zed through... Ssssccccccaaaaapppppppppeeeee

Zed's also aren't cheap on fuel. Not really suitable for a work car.

Having been involved with cars that run on both LPG and Petrol, there is bugger all difference in economy, when you consider that most LPG run cars only average 350-450k's per tank compered to a well tuned older petrol car which can average 500-690k's. So you end up doing the same amount of money when you have to refill more often.

IMHO probably best to save up a little bit more and just buy a Zed outright or maybe see if ya folks will top up your funds and pay them back.

As for driving a Ford around :vomit: get a Holden at least

Zed's make perfect delivery cars, just get a 2+2 and fold down the back seats, lift the sagging stock suspension. Just be sure that you're doing my deliveries cos that stupid AusPost van is so slow, we need twin turbo posties.

Haha, this is no heavy deliveries, this is just close radius pizza delivery. Doin it part time for 20 hours or so a week.

And really, a Ford is not so much worse than a Holden, and I'm a Holden guy as well. but for 3k, I am finding appaling VT Commodores

I managed to get the guy down to $2500 now, told him it needs some repairs and what not.
    For $2500 its mighty tempting

for $2500 you still might be putting in $5000+ for repairs. Go for whatever makes you happy though.

If I bought it, yea. I'd sink that much into it to bring it up to my preferred level. But to be honest if I bought this, it'd only to be a donor car, and strip it for parts for another Zed.

Something about the car just rubbed me the wrong way, mostly when you accelerated. Gearbox just didn't shift as smoothly as I had expected, plus with all the noise and mild vibration (could perhaps have been a dead tailshaft center bearing), I felt uncomfortable planting my foot down past 4krpm. I've yet to be in a Zed that loud. It was obscene. Especially considering from the Cats onwards to the Engine, it was a dead set stock exhaust. The back end looked like some sort of 2.25 or 2.5 custom system with these God-awfully loud oval canon type things.

Then there was the steering being a tad heavy. Some of the interior pieces look like they've been modified (aka horribly abused) many times over by retards with absolutely no sense of style, or respect for what the Z was / should be.

Then theres the door seals which have been abused and bodgied up with what looks like silicon. Driver's side window appears to be jammed. Motor clicks away when you press the button, but window doesn't move a millimetre. Also the seat belt on the passenger side door has jammed and just dangles out there, almost fully extended.

Then theres the typical Passenger's side cowls broken / rotting away. Driver's side ones were also on the way out. Theres a crack in the Rear Center Panel. Its missing an Infil panel (and subsequently a 3rd brake light), and who ever did the Brazilian conversion, didn't even cut the necessary holes for any Infill Panel to be installed.

What scared me also was, it seemingly developed a coolant leak, around where the main water hoses go into the front of the block.

Idle was also unstable / erratic. I adjusted the TPS to .45 from .40 and the Idle went nuts. The Idle screw looks stuck / jammed all the way in as well.

...And the car has also been keyed.

The only good points I can point out, is that it doesn't appear to have ever been in an accident, the AC was gassed and working, and the paint seemed in good condition, if you don't count the keying.

I would recommend he stay away from this one. Hold out for another in better condition.

Yeah, I didnt go for it. I bought the Fairmont, its pretty crude, has a decent amount of power but it does the job and yeah I'll hold out for a while.

Planning to save up about 2k over the next 2-3 months, get rid of the Fairmont for 3-3.5k and sink about 5.5-6k into a nice 300.

Hopefully, I can again arrange an inspection with Emile when the time comes, I want either a black or silver Zed in nice condition and preferably a post 92 model.

    ie.

BTW, Emile, I think the 300 could've been really improved with a full auto flush and refill to appropriate levels, all the connectors (ie, TPS, etc) cleaned out with some sand paper, and some general TLC.
