seriously.. what does it matter if you destroy a turbo or even both!!, gives us guys more of an excuse to change turbos and to make more power and learn more about these machines! i have been running mine with capped off BOV's for a long time now!, first thing i done when i brought it.. then straight away.. noticed more power, so obviously they were leaking. i dont mind the sound, but i also cant justify paying anywhere up to $500 for some bov's, yeah im sure there are Pros and Cons, but Alot of mates have been "Dosing" for years on poor old T28's that get over boosted Everyday! so never the less, im just saying im one of the minority who is dosing and my car is running fine, has for the last 3 years and im more then confident that it will be fine for another 3 years without any hassels from "Compressor surge". Just my 2c worth.

I don't think this 'dosing' thing is causing damage to turbos. But what I do think is that it is slowing you down. Here is why I think that.

As soon as you shut the throttle and don't have recirc or bovs fitted then the air has nowhere to go. This in turn has to cause the compressor to begin to stall. Not saying that it is damaging it, however it is surely as the sun rises slowing the compressor.

I would take from this that you must in turn be slowing the rate at which your turbo can then get to speed again. I am no scientist nor am I pretending to know it all. It just seems obvious. If not the case why did Nissan or any other manufacturer fit these valves from the factory?

I guess I shouldn't have said this is a fail thread, that is not really a fair comment. I just dislike when people cheapen 300's. And in my opinion Mods like this do exactly that. there are so many other cars out there to go and turn into a wank wagon.

Surge is very harsh on bearings, this is where you will get the damage.

It sounds pretty cool...............on VL Turbos, so leave it to them.

Some SSQS BOV's have a adjustment screw, if you adjust the spring pressure off to open at a low differental pressure the flutter will not happen. That is the advantage of the SSQS valve.[ react quicker ]

Shock pulse is not recon-mended for angler-contact bearings. That's what is used in roller bearing turbos.

alot of you guys are saying it kills turbos... wheres the studies to proove it ???:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

    Hidds THAT annoying guy....

im sitting on the fence for this, but im pretty sure if the makers of these turbos say that dosing is not reccomended for their turbos, one would make the assumption that it would only cause some form of damage

and im sure this topic has been covered before (cant be arsed finding thread)

everyone has their own opinion on this matter it appears, and if someone does show evidence it seems to get shot down, meh but thats just me

ive had the dose on the zed before. aint that good problem is you need metal intake piping the whole way through to make it go loud. our zeds have plastic intake pipes plus some ripples in them which dont help the sound... id like to hear the dose out of kabir's zed i think he has all metal intake piping...

i also have friends that have vls, skylines, silvias all with doses. some of them HUGE doseee and still going strong after many years of dosing...

you may be able to show some theory studies that surge etc can damage bearings etc but lets say for arguments sake a turbo lives for 10years. what would this damage do, reduce that life to 8years. big deal...

there has been no proof to show a turbo has died directly from dosing...

I agree with you that it causes more stress on the turbo and limits its life span thats why i wouldn't do it on a zed but in regards to down the quter mile where vl are manly for in an built auto where throttle is always open unless you start facing the wall!! that build up of presser has nowhere to go other than be forced through the open throttle body maybe causing more air for combustion maybe more power ??
that would be the only other advantage other than the sound.
