    Rear Strip + moulding

    Rear Strip:
Im not sure what the name is for this piece but i will call it the rear strip.

Im getting alot better at applying this stuff now and i feel im about 20% quicker whilst maintaining the same standard of quality.

    Prepping the Surface.

Taping down half and stretching the other half over.

First half stuck down with loose edges.

Both sides down with back half trimmed.

There was bound to be blood at some point.

Front side being trimmed with a passenger side targa off.

    Its done!

A little dusty but no imperfections :)

4th pic is a beauty, one of only a few that shows what it is actually like in the flesh.

    Mouldings:
While i was doing the previous part my old man found an off cut piece and decided to wrap a molding i had pulled off. I was kinda surprised at how it turned out, very noticeable difference.

One edge is trimmed off and one has been wrapped over.

I then cut the wrapping off the end cos dad did a dodgey job and i thnk it looks better this way without it.

    A very noticeable difference
    [IMG]

and before you ask "will it stick to it and stay on"

it will. This stuff has approx 1kg of adhesion per square centimeter. You just have to prep the surface properly so that it doesn't adhere to anything loose like dust.

thats all for today, lots of big things happening tomorrow which will include fiber glassing/bogging and maybe some wrapping :D

    cheers for the read,

    until tomorrow....

Matt Black Vinyl wrap is a wicked idea! I remember watching a DVD on an American Gumball race where they did this to a lot of the cars entering the race... They had chrome and all kinds of wicked graphics....

Found a few photos - Not sure if I like this Gold Chrome BMW but you get the idea...

Doing my laser in carbon fiber wrap was fun. Looks good too.

    hehe :)

i washed the vinyl for the first time today..very interesting. The water just made a perfect shape then seeped out really slowly, was kinda cool to watch. I was a little worried about what water might do if it got under an edge or something, that's why iv been making sure there are no loose bits. I tried peeling back a part that i did on day one..its stuck down really hard. I remember seeing in the instructions that it takes a day or so to fully adhere.

so all is well and going good. I think my initial 2 week time line was a gross underestimate. I am enjoying the time its taking me though..im in no rush. :br:

    Windshield Supports.

Today i did both windshield supports (hope thats what they are called).

Still very time consuming, im aiming to do one panel a day on my days off, which is actually everyday until Saturday when i start study. I download a Hamish and Andy podcast episode and it usually takes me one of those + some music to do a panel which is about an hour now.

someone was talking earlier about finger prints. I have noticed that only certain pars of the car get touched (obviously), targas the most. there are a heap of finger prints on them. So i got abit of metho and gave it a light rub and then blew it off. came out perfect  ....easy.

Once again pics dont do it justice and its in the dark garage.

    prepping the surface.

Half applied, iv been finding little things to do that help me do it alone. If you look closely in this pic its stuck down to the fender. i purposely added a bit more so i could do this..then lightly heat it up, stretch it the full length and start to apply.

hard to get a good angle.
Starting to get that look im after.

You'll notice in all the pics its really dusty. When im done ill metho the whole thing and give it a good wipe and then ill need someone with a very good camera to take some shots so you can really see what its like.

I cant stress how inaccurate some of these pics are

That's all for today. Ill be busy for the next few days so probably wont be an update til Sunday.

thanks for reading guys and cheers!

    until next time..

    New Job!!

Iv been looking around for a new job as i was made redundant by my last employer. I have some multimedia background which includes design and all that stuff, majored in marketing so i wanted to get into that sort of thing (havnt worked in this field yet).

Anyway, a job came up and i applied, the owner is getting me in tomorrow for a trial day to see how i go which is exciting to say the least!

anyway the good part. Job title: Sign maker/Vinyl Installer :eek::eek:

A bit of back story. I applied and then went down the day after to check the place out and speak to the owner and show them i was enthusiastic. Also got to show off the stealth zed and my vinyling skills. He said matte is really hard to work with and that id done a pretty dam good job.

So im in at 8am, im gonna be having nightmares about air bubbles tonight

    anyways,

ill report back tomorrow night with my thoughts and new found skills in vinyling. Then get set to make use of them on the zed.

    cheers,
    matt

Cheers mate, its turning more into a blog rather than a re build thread lol. I think its a bit unique and fun to read..i have a lot of non forum member friends who follow it also - its why i do and say certain things.

depending on work and other commitments this week i plan to do the hatch, it needs to be sanded at the holes and have a few dings filled in. The hatch is a rather large piece so its gonna take some time to do it all then prep and wrap it properly.

    we'll see how it goes.

    cheers,
    matt

Would you perhaps be interested in wrapping a few interior pieces in 3M carbon fibre wrap sometime in the future? :D

    Hatch

I finally mustered up the courage to do the hatch. I spent an uncomfortable amount of time on this piece and it had me pulling me hair out at some points.

I pulled the spoiler off last week and sold it. Then to fill up the holes i put squares of wood behind them and used liquid nails then let it dry. I bored out the holes and filled it with body bog. Then wet n' dry block it down build it up rinse and repeat. Then prepped the surface and began a 6+ hour wrap...[TIS]

Started at about 9pm last night went through to 12 then got a little hasty and put my finger through the middle of it :mad::mad::mad:

restarted and went through to 2am. woke up at 9am went until 1pm then cleaned up and sprayed the rear wiper in matte black.

Had to bog up a dent.

    Filled the holes.

    Blocking them down.

Fitting a piece of cloth as a test. Then used it as a rough template (i measured out exact lengths)

    Prepping the surface.

Laying the vinyl on and fitting it. (notice the wiper bolt making it difficult) I ended up cutting a hole and just pulling the vinyl down and around. I then overstretched it and had to make a seam :(
    [IMG]

    Started here..

..and worked my way down and around.

All down and smooth, just needs trimming.

    Z curves :zlove:

    3rd brake light area.

    Bump came out nice.

    Overall looks hot!

The decided to spray the rear wiper in matte black.
