    Hey everyone,

I'm about to purchase Mickey Thompson et streets for my zed.
Sick of car getting no traction and sliding all over the place! Lol
also taking it to the track soon so wana get some good traction.
Anyway.. The tyres I'm about to buy are 275 / 40 17 I need to know if they will fit on my car or are they to wide?
I still need to find rims that will fit them.

    Cheers Mia

Nah, wouldn't go MT's for the street, they are drag racing tyres and you would only get a few thousand k's out of them. If you have that much trouble with traction you should have a look at street semi slicks. Something like the Falken 615's or Kumho KU36's. You'll even have a little bit of wet weather grip too :p

Well I've heard alot of good things bout the Mickey Thompson tyres, I was about to purchase the kumoh"s.. But to be honest I don't think they will do much for my car as it's pulling 310 at the wheels, I didn't want to spend that money On them and they do no difference to what I have now lol,
I know a couple people who have the Mickey Thompson semi"s on pulling 350+ at the wheels and they have no traction problem which is good so I'm keen on them still, just need to know if they will fit on the zed or not, I'm worried they might be to wide so thought I'd get opinions before I get them lol :)

    thanks

Also I drive the car maybe twice a week so I'm not worried bout putting km"s on the tyres, they should last me a little while (I hope) lol

MT's are a great DRAG tyre. They have a very soft sidewall, no good for going around corners. Unless you are just burning up the Princess highway I would get a street semi.

275/40's will fit but the sidewall is a bit too high. You really want a 35. Def not too wide, 305's will fit on a Zed.

    wow im in love! lol

i know what ya saying ive got around the same power and with my 20s it'll be harder to find semi slicks to get the extra grip i need. my nangkans are so shit chunks of rubber comes of them every "little" show of smoke i do so im in the same boat at the moment Kumho are good i hear for the street, get another two rims even stock rims for the track with the m/t tires as what im doing you should do a low 12 with that power good luck

as advised u dont want mt's for the road, street semi slicks will be good. i have used street semi slicks and they lasted me a bit :cool: they also gave me relativly good wet traction which surprised me.

your biggest problem though would be ur suspension setup. if u dont already have some get some rear camber arms and get ur camber set as close to 0~ when the car is in load, this will give u max acceleration. i have done this with my car i think mine is set to like -0.05 or -0.5 forgot exactly but this made a MASSIVE difference with my traction. i also did a 2mm toe in to keep the car stable at speeds...

some fat ass good tyres (i use toyo proxies which are really great), camber settings nicely set, and u should be alot better with traction...

Get some Re55 semi slicks. They will last ok for limited street use. You will still get some wheelspin but nothing like normal road tyres. Forget the MT radials, they are awful on the road. I drive 30km to the dragstrip on them because im too lazy to change them at the strip. Feels like the tyres are made of jelly when you have to change lanes:D

Hmm OK.. well ill look into street semi's and see what i find, i might buy both, get the MT's For the Track as im going really soon, and the street semi's for everyday.. as i said im just worried the street semi's wont do much for me.. i suppose if they dont i can always just sell them lol :)

Also look at the Federal 595 RSR's terrific cross over tyres.

BTW you could also turn your boost down a bit !! :D

Mia, I strongly recommend Dunlop Direzza Z1 street semis. A fantastic road tyre, amazing traction, cornering ability and braking. The only thing is that they are from the US, and there's only one shop that stocks them, others import at higher prices... If you're keen, let me know and I'll organise some good prices for you. I will not use another tyre.
You should know also, the fatter the tyre the more traction is not ALWAYS the case, especially on the street.

mmm not bad but if u can imagine the wheel sitting at -1degree camber then when u plant it the car squats and ur camber ends up being like -1.5 to -2degree camber (with stiff suspension, even more camber with soft suspension)... this wont help with traction at all. the more camber u have the more ur going to fry the tyres up.

thing is u want ur rear wheels to sit on 0 camber when u plant it for maximum acceleration. only way to do this is to go into positive camber, which no one does on a road car plus itll look funny on a road car (only dedicated drag cars do this). so the next best thing is get as close as u can to 0. mines set roughly -0.05 to -0.5 camber. pretty much the best i could get it for max acceleration. my tyres have exact wear on the whole span of the tyre, no camber wear at all. this is what u want to aim for the rear.

look into it, it helps alotttt more than one may think.

with that done, say 2mm toe in to keep it steady, some fat ass good tyres and it should relativly be good

    Hi Mia,
Are you buying locally or from the states? If you are looking to buy from the states contact me and I'll see what I can do to help you get them here. They will be cheaper from there and you might be able to score some sexy looking rims cheap too.
    Cheers Glen
