I've just received a call from a friend informing me that a friend of his has had their 300ZX stolen by some :W: from the Westfield Woden Plaza in Canberra while they were watching a movie at Hoyts tonight.

    :bash:

    Colour: Red
    Plates: YFT-41K
Distinguishing Features: Rear bar was taped on, on the drivers side...

If anyone gets offered any parts from a red Zed in the Canberra region, please let me and the Canberra Police know...

It might be local joy riders, but if it is to be parted out it will probably be taken interstate. So for the best results, see if he can get a picture and post it here. We can all keep an eye out both for the complete car, and some one trying to flog off Zed parts.
Sad news, but the harder we make it for these scum the less likely they will attempt to steal zeds, and head to where the cheap lower risk buck is.
I would like to suggest that we create a policy, via this site (as it is the largest collection of Zeds), that we only purchase parts from organisation and individuals that are able to maintain the Zed the part came from (if second hand) or its VIN. For those wrecking businesses it won't be too hard as they already are to maintain them. Sure it can be bypassed by rattling of other VINs, but for the doggy ones (businesses, ebayers and backyarders) dealing in hot parts will make them think again.
We can keep a list of VINs of cars that have been stolen in the past, and ensure that if we get a half cut or part or a wreck it is not supporting the car theft black market. Just a thought.

This doesn't help but a complete SMS GPS locator system for a car costs less than 4 bloody tyres and only requires topping the simcard up once or twice a year and can disable the fuel pump with an SMS. I have sympathy but in this day of age where a wanted sports car where most the time the parts are worth more than the car, I have less sympathy that he didn't protect his pride and joy alot stronger. :(

    2nded. security is cheap compared

to losing a car to theft.

This has prompted me to make up a new batch of ZIDs I think ...

    Nah, Madcow...

Fortunately NOT my Zed... I'm still trying to get more details, and will post them when I have them...

I have a GPS alarm system going in my Zed very soon, and a full (and expensive) immobiliser system in it already... I don't take any chances with my baby...

Constantly happening in ACT it seems, if I owned a zed there the least I would have is a full immobiliser & alarm and GPS.

I'll keep a look out. When I'm parked at a City carpark I take the extra precaution of removing the link for the fuel pump relay (small green fuselink located in a black fusebox inthe engine bay close to the brake master cylinder). Car won't go antwhere without a fuel pump working.

    Cheers

PS: I have also installed a multi-CCTV overlapping camera/recording system looking across all parked cars in the driveway at home.

    Good'ish news!

    Car has been recovered.

I only know minimal details, as it wasn't a Zed owner I know personally... Was found a little the worse for wear (dented, scratched and generally flogged), but generally whole... And I'm reliably informed the rebuild (to restore its former glory) has already begun! :)

    Joy-riders like you said dieseldave...

    Thanks for the support all!

My old 300zx was broken into while I was at work one day (defence building), lucky the immobiliser stopped them from getting away with it. After that I put a steering wheel lock on whenever I parked it. I think a nice deterrent as it introduces another hurdle to stealing the car.

Yes I can think of one such establisment where thefts (motorcycles in particular) occured wayyy too often. Since last year theyve thrown a whole bunch of rent-a-cops in, and the problem seemed to die down

I was told, that AFP constantly monitor sites like this and ebay. As soon as a car is stolen, if its parted out, and sold on sites like i mentioned, the police usualy track the parts back to the car pretty quick.

You are quite correct. I can assure all members that this site is considered to be a premium "automotive" site to be constantly monitored by insurance company's and all law enforcement agencies.

I know this because I have been contacted by an major car insurer who told me that they were "displeased" with some of my comments on this site about their service (Yes, they traced my comments back to me and called me on my mobile phone). Also, the "boys and girls in blue" have been known to be "waiting just around the corner" on some of our previous cruises.

So, be careful what you write about your zed, particularly anything about your mods and obviously if you have been in an accident.

    Cheers
