Man I had no idea that these were available as genuine accessories. I thought they were all aftermarket, and DIY mods.

I have the same bloody noise. I had no idea what it could've been. I've mentioned it a few times, but haven't gotten any answers.

I don't have the OEM green panel. And since owning the car for 2 years have not seen it lit up. I've looked around in the boot area and have seen some spliced wiring, but had no idea what it was for. I'll carefully follow them and see If I can identify the inverter.

Would I have to open up the center panel to disconnect the inverter?

99.999 probability of the inverter being OUTSIDE the panel.

I had a stack of help from Jedi when putting my originals in. The originals are installed the same as the aftermarket ones - they are hooked into interior light relay located behind the passenger seat.

According to her website, the aftermarket 'SMITHY' ones can be purchased through Caz...click me

I love the door sils. I remember reading about the group buy b4 i got my car. I would've bought 'em back then but wasn't 100% sure I'd be getting a Zed at the time.

ok, i fitted a new one today so the panel is up and running, i bought one from a uk supplier www.rswww.com item no. 267-8863 , what you are looking for is this 'EL sheet inverter,12V 120mA rms 400Hz'.

It was expensive but it works now.
Also worth noting these replacements are slightly smaller than the nissan variant.

There is also a member on the uk z club www.300zx.co.uk called 'Zed-Sean' who states that he sells them at a fraction of the cost so he might be worth a try.

Thread dig I know, but just wondering if you still had these pictures? I'm interested in adding a rear glowing panel and door sills. Was just wondering exactly what the rear quarter window sills are as I have never seen them before?

Also, where would it be possible to get any of these parts from? I saw the gb thread on door sills which look absolutely awesome but its from 2005, and the sills arent listed on smithys place on caz any more :(

    300zx Altia Indiglo FAQ

Here's a bit of a FAQ about the Altia Indiglo parts available for the 300zx!

The Indiglo parts on the 300zx were made by a Nissan sub-division company called Altia. In the late 1990's Altia separated from Nissan.

The 3 indiglo parts made for the 300zx are:
    1/ Rear Centre Panel
2/ Door Sills (otherwise known as Kick Panels)
    3/ Rear Quarter Window Sill

    1/ Rear centre panel:
Here is a normal rear centre panel:

Here is an indiglo rear centre panel:

You can tell a panel is an indiglo one by:
    a) the indiglo rear centre panel is maroon on the inside of the 300zx logo (see above)

    b) the indiglo panel only came in green (this is not to say that all green panels are genuine Altia / Nissan panels)

    c) The whole of the 300zx logo illuminates. This is a genuine panel:

This is not (because it is red, and because only the outline is illuminated):

    d) The genuine panels came with a wiring loom that connect in to the black box that controls the rear lights (located inside the right rear quarter panel boot trim):

Just as a FYI, here is a picture of the inside of a genuine panel:

Genuine illuminated rear centre panels are the least rare of the illuminated products, but are still rare. As of early 2008 they are listed at AUD$1300, but cannot be purchased new any more.

The standard rear centre panel can be converted to illuminate. There are tech articles in the tech section on how to do this. It is a messy fiddly job, but the end result can definately be worth it.

    2/ Door Sills

Genuine illuminated door sills are less common than the rear centre panels. The standard sills are plastic, while the indiglo ones are aluminium, but retain a very similar shape:

There are now some good aftermarket sills available. These can differentiated by their use of steel rather than aluminium.

    3/ Rear Quarter Window Sill

The rarest of all the Altia indiglo parts is the rear quarter window sill:

Now that is some seriously cool lighting. I have never seen those window sills before. Its a shame that most of the forum stickers are in place of it now haha. I would attempt making up something similar.

Can you tell me, is the illuminated lettering is stuck on the inside or outside of the glass itself. I couldnt imagine it being moulded into the glass, so in or out. lol.

Oh and i wish i bought that indiglo rear panel from the Z wreckers down here. Was $50...long gone now, so its the company.

    Cheers.
