you see when i bought this car i bought it because i wanted an XR6 turbo i didnt just want a cheap car that goes fast i wanted it for the comfort, reliability and coz its new i didnt want a clapped out jap car, i would probably never spend more money than a car is worth just on performance mods so a $5k Z with $20k of mods is a waste of money imo. And a 9-10sec Z is bascially unstreetable, most of the 10sec XR6ts are totally street driven and are just as drivable as they were stock, i know ive been in one and it felt just like my car until he nailed it

that depends mate. it's only a waste of money if you sell it later on and you have it as a short term play. but if you know you wont let it go, its WELL worth the money imho.

    agreed :D

but then again. if you want a good car and have a FAMILY, i would go the xr6t over the zed. as the zed is just an impractical family car :p the only thing it is practical for is nice spirited drives..........and sex on the bonnet lol

I think the opposite, a car from the 80's that can stomp any new car from today with the right modifications is an achievement. Anyone can buy an already fast car off the shelf, that takes no skill at all.

How you explain the driveability of a modified Ford is the same as a Z. A friend of mine ran a 9.3 in his Z31 and he drove to and from the track! You just have to stay off the boost, 3.5bar in any car is going to be a wild beast to drive on the public road! :p

Family, Schmainly... Weekend warriors mate who think they're Craig Lownes.

on about the 5ft one :D

    just to mention though

yes the xr6t is easier to get power out of, never denied that, thats because of course it is equiped with a garret 35r standard, its an awsome turbo

Im sure you can get a sigma running 9s too with the right modifications but id still prefer the comfort of the big car which absorbs every bump in the road, has plenty of leg room and you can carry 4 large passengers with all their luggage in the boot and still take it to the track on the weekend and run a 10sec pass. The XR6T isnt that fast off the shelf BA capable of a high 13-low 14 FG capable of a low 13, Z wasnt far off that back in its hayday but the XR is so restricted from factory that even minor modifications give you huge power gains i cant see that as a bad thing. Look at the end of the day the people who love their Zs will continue to love their Zs and the same with the XR people with the XRs. I like Zs for their looks and ability as a track car but only reason i wouldnt buy one is because of their age its hard to find one in good condition, plus their engine looks like a mongrel to work on lol and after seein what chad goes through to work on his car ill pass :p

Fair points, but when you are on a 300ZX forum trying to defend the XR6T (against the timeless 300ZX)... You know what the outcome will be ;)

I'm not so narrow minded, I appreciate all makes and models. But I'd keep my Z over your XR6 :)

parker Been around for a bit

engine looks daunting but is not

after you read a few tech articles on here and take off all the intake hoses it's all pretty straight forward for the home mech. The only big job is the snails which are done (usually) with engine out. it only takes an afternoon to take her completely out. :)

That's fair enough, some people just aren't made to deal with a Z but would rather have the dealership hold their hand to do oil changes and such. Each to their own, easy is boring to me though. You dont know the Z cars well enough to make a fair judgement though it seems, because if you want to talk about restricted from the factory the Z takes the cake on that one.

There's a difference between a car enthusiast and someone who just owns a car, the whole point is that they're old and difficult to work on compared to the average domestic. How many Fords do you see driving around? There's nothing at all special about it.

lolz so im not a car enthusiast because i dont own a car thats a prick to work on? hahaha....so should i go out and buy a car thats gona give me headaches so u can consider me worthy of being a car enthusiast? nah thats cool ill just be someone who owns a ford thanks

So maybe u dont find my car special thats cool coz u dont own it i dont find ur car special either, but to me my car is special

You dont like a car because it's old and hard to work on, that's just a cop out. We'll have to agree to disagree on that one. You dont do things because they're easy, you do them because they are hard. (rockin JFK quotes yet again)

neva said i didnt like the car there are things i do like about the Z such as the looks and handling i just wouldnt buy one because theyr hard to find in good condition and most mechanics wont touch them....lolz feels like im goin around in circles here haha ok lets just agree to disagree :zlove:

They're hard to find because they're rare, that's not a bad thing infact it's the opposite. If you're happy to drive around something you see 50 of every single day, that's up to you. The whole point of a Z is that they're not common, and this of course means that not many mechanics know wtf they're doing when it comes to them. And finding a rough one and bringing it back to its former glory is something to be proud of, again only something a real enthusiast would understand.

You could always pick up some tools and buy a factory service manual, but I suppose that's foolish of me to suggest eh? ;)

what do u expect when they're imported cars that started production in 89 that leaves heaps of time for them to be written off/stolen/stripped etc so of course there isnt gona be as many as an australian built car that started production 5yrs ago. There isnt that many XR6ts around compared to N/As either. before i bought my car i was contemplating buying a GTiR but my old man hated the idea of me buying an older car thats most likely had a hard life over in japan. He liked the idea of me getting a newer, locally built car that has good safety ratings and i wanted something with balls so we met half way with the XR6T.

That's got absolutely nothing to do with it, your lack of Z knowledge is evident. All TT's here in Australia are imports, and there were only 100 Series II Z31s exported to Australia in the first place. Regardless of how many have been wrapped around trees, there werent many to begin with.

And who lets their parents dictate to them what kind of car they buy as an adult? lol Oh wait a minute, it all makes sense now...

This pretty much proves my point, thanks for that I couldn't of done it better myself. This is the difference between a real enthusiast and just some random person who owns a car.

I've already said how much I like the XR6T, and how much I respect the power output of these cars since I most likely have more experience working with Fords straight 6 than yourself, you no doubt depend on mechanics to check your window washer fluid. The point I was trying to make was that every negative aspect of the Z you have mentioned, is the very reason Z guys love them.

I was just poking you with a stick until your true colours came out, which it looks like I have achieved so thanks again! ;) lol
