be careful with mounting it, had a friend spend 3500 on an alpine pulsetouch system, then went over a speed bump and earthed the entire system, only reason it stuffed up is cause he was hasty with the wiring and didnt make sure it was 100% secure.

    BTW sweet systems

Cheers for that, but yeah I will make sure I dont rush things and its ok I try to avoid speed humps :p

post some pics of your work when its all mounted. I recently installed a midrange alpine head unit and was quite impressed.I labelled all my wires with little tags from jaycar, i did this for future reference, might be an idea if you are like me and chop and change audio gear all the time.

    Hey,

I've done a few installs myself, a few things that i stick to:

Try to find a harness specific to the 300zx (alternatively make your own :p) this will mean that you won't have to hack up your original wiring harness, and if you are extremely lucky, you may be able to find one that plugs straight into the unit.

JayKay's idea of labelling the wires is fantastic! never though of that before :p Also along these lines, try to use heatshrink to cover your connections (if you don't have a heatgun, run a soldering iron over the heatshrink) rather than using electrical tape. Also, once you're done ziptie (or alike) your wires together so that its a lot easier to put back in, and they don't get pulled at (takes pressure of the unit).

Oh and disconnect the battery :p

Whenever I do them these days I use those terminal block things you can pick up from dick smiths/jaycar for $1.50. You know the ones, wire in one side, do screw up, wire in other side, do screw up

Makes it very easy to change wires if you get them mixed up (specially speakers)

a cigarette lighter works better especially in confined spaces

Just pulled the same unit out of the ute last weekend. Some things specific to your unit and the zed...>>>

Mount the unit in the upper part of the twin DIN slots. You can try to mount it a tad lower in the bottom DIN slot but it may contact the gear-shifter.
Mount the main processor in the space behind the drivers seat, (hope you have a 2 seater, or else you'll be finding another spot) behind the cardboard trim there is a spot perfect for this. Some velcro tape is enough to locate it against the wheel well.

VERY easy to install, with the AI Net wiring making powering up the headunit a cinch! Easy to take Power, ACC, from the original wiring harness, but much better idea to run new wiring for the speakers now so you can up the power through an amp or two later and not have to fish for the correct wires in an undersized wiring loom.

Cool, I'm pulling out the Pioneer DVD screen and fitting my 310E to the Zed (some time in the near future) to match the other Alpine stuff in there so would be good to see how it looks in yours.

After that was installed and all wires had been connected then came the easy part of just putting it all back in.

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

    good work.

unfortunately being similar to mine, the screen blocks the direct blast from the a/c vents in the middle. Oh well, when you're stinking hot and want the full blast of a/c i suppose you just flip the screen down for a while.

Good looking unit too. better than my cheapie touch screen.
