This is an ultra tentative EOI of those who would be interested in an Ultra Sc series UR crank pulley.

These pulleys are currently not available from UR for the 300ZX, and we would need 30 items or more to get UR to produce a run for us.

    Questions and Answers:

What is different about the Ultra Sc series to the currently available UR pulleys?

The ultra Sc series is a stock diameter crank pulley. The pulley currently available is an underdrive pulley, meaning it turns the accessories such as the alternator, power steering and water pump at lower speeds to gain more power.

Why would I want a stock diameter sized crank pulley when I get can get more power from an underdrive pulley?

According to most people, 90% of the gains from an underdrive pulley come from the lower weight of the pulley compared to the stock dampener. That means only 10% of the power an underdrive pulley comes from running the accessories slower. Stage charts estimate the power increase due to an underdrive pulley to be around 20whp, so only 2whp is from underdriving the accessories. There are disadvantages to underdriving the accessories. The main disadvantage is slower water pump speeds and thus higher coolant temperatures. Recently people have been fitting new water pump pulleys to their underdrive pulley equipped cars in order to return coolant temperatures to normal. With the Ultra Sc series UR pulleys, this will not be required. So you can save yourself up to $150 by using a stock diameter crank pulley.

    When will these be available?

To be honest. No idea. I will get the ball rolling if EOI approaches the required number of people.

How much will these things weigh anyway?

Not 100% sure, but slightly more than the current underdrive pulleys.

    Stock dampener: ~5.2kg
    UR Ultra S (Underdrive): ~0.8kg
UR Ultra Sc (Stock Diameter): I'm guessing ~1kg.

    Will this destroy my motor?

Some people believe a harmonic damper is required on the 300zx, some people don't. I know of no instances in which an underdrive pulley has been attributed to an engine failure or damage. I cannot provide information beyond this.

How much will this cost me?

Ultimately, I think if you are interested you should be prepared for a price around $300 to your door, but I will not be running this for profit to me, so if it ends up being $250, that's what the price will be. Remember that an overdrive water pump pulley will not be required, so you are saving $150 there.

There is only one exception to this cost pricing. If I can only get an EOI for 25 people definitely in, I may purchase the 5 other pulleys, at which point they will be sold for more than cost price as the first product to come out of ZDUCTIV Enterprises or some other cool sounding name which I will think of later....

So why, apart from power gains, and not having to get an overdrive water pump pulley to return my coolant temps to normal should I get this pulley?

They are sexy. Women will lust after you. Maybe.

Not going too badly. 13.33% of the way in two and a half hours... anyways.

Will this work on my NA? How much horsepower will I get?

Checking the UR website, they list the same part no. for both the NA and the TT for all years. However, checking the Nissan FAST database, there are different part no's listed for the 89-93 TT, 93+ TT, and NA pulleys.

I will have to look into this more, but I believe the UR is a univeral fit.

Gains on an NA aren't as high as the 20whp claimed for the TT underdrive pulley, but its still a respectable 10whp.

What proof do you have of these gains?

Could people please post year and TT/NA with their posts, so I can keep track if there are differences in the UR pulleys for different years and aspiration.

Interest expressed. I have a underdrive on my current motor. And the only reason I wanted it was because it was so light compared to the stock one.

The NA crank pulleys have a 3PK rib for the powersteering pump whereas the TT crank pulley has 4PK. When it comes to fitting aftermarket crank pulleys to both NA and TT they 4PK pulley is used. Make sense? :zlove:

Cheers Tom. I had forgotten about the differences for the PS pump.

To clarify for anyone who didn't understand that:

Uh, wtf did Tom just say?

The power steering pulley is different for 89-93TT vs 93+TT, and NA pumps. This is because the earlier TT series had hydraulic HICAS, whereas the 93+TT is electric, and the NA didn't have HICAS.

The pulleys have different rib counts (4 rib for early TT, 3 rib for later TT/NA) and a different offset.

The early TT crank pulley can be used on the later series TT, and NA, but there will be an extra rib spacing on the pulley. This should be of no consequence, just ensure the belt is lined up straight and there shouldn't be any issues.

Just to add some extra information regarding the differences between NA, 89-93TT, and 93+TT power steering pumps.

All Unorthodox Racing PS pump pulleys are 4 ribs. So if you are worried about using a 3 rib belt on the crank pulley with your 3 rib NA / 93+TT PS pulley, you can order the UR PS pump pulley and use an appropriate 4 rib belt.

The UR NA/93+TT pulley looks like this:

If the interest is there, I might run a GB on the accessory pulleys later if people are interested.

    Expression of interest here!

    '90 NA:)
Any idea of cost for the complete set of pulleys?

Well, CZP prices as of today are:
    Alternator-$75USD+shipping
    PS-$95USD+shipping
    Water pump-$95USD+shipping

So hopefully less than those, but I will probably run that GB seperately, so I can concentrate on one GB at a time.

    Cheers

Received an email from Shawn today.

I did some rough calculations based on being charged 10% GST + shipping for a box that will weigh 50kg.

We are looking at around $330 delivered to your house I believe, but will confirm when I get a proper shipping estimate from UR.

Comparing this to current pricing available in Aus for standard underdrive pulleys:

The normal UR pulleys are $385(this includes belts) from TTZ

GFB pulley from CazRacing are $272

Both of which require a PEX or similar overdrive water pump pulley to return your coolant temps to normal ($150 delivered)

Received a quote from UR from shipping that was significantly less than what I thought it would be.

Assuming we are charged GST, the new price estimate is $290 shipped! (to your door).

Be prepared for fluctuations due to exchange rate and such.

People this is a awesome deal! $290 delivered to your door. I'm surprised more people haven't jumped at this.

so we wont need new belts?

if this is the case, and depending how much cash i got in the bank at the time i'm expressing interest.

Stock diameter so you will only need new belts if you have an NA and are upgrading to a UR 4 rib PS pulley.
