    Hey guys,

Well lately I have been ringing around and considering its tax time its also time for a new exhaust :) . I've narrowed my search down to Mettams Mufflers and Mindarie Custom Exhaust (perth boys would know) now Mettams have quotted me $600 for a 3inch Cat-Back system with Max Motorsport cannons and MCE have quoted me $2200 for a 2.5inch Cat-Back with Magnaflow SS mufflers (like brad's).

My question is has anyone heard or have had any experience with the Max Motorsport cannons or how they sound? and also I would like to hear your opinions if these are alright choices?

    Cheers in advance
    Luke. :)

wasting ur time with cannons, there going to be loud as and your not going to like the sound...the bigger and heavier the mufflers are the better to reduce sound that is...you will still get an awsome sound when you foot goes heavy, but at cruising speeds will be nice and quite...so whatever the biggest and heaviest mufflers you can get your hands on, thats the best choice...anything less is going to be loud at all times...you could try getting middle mufflers etc but it will still be loud if you have cannons. im not sure how middle mufflers would sound with brads exhausts though, would be interesting...

Yeah I thought cannons wouldn't be good I am pretty keen on the Magnflow's just the sound lol but are there any other brand mufflers that are qualilty and I can get? I think $2200 is just a little over priced even though its all custom. lol

Is the MCE system full SS from the cat-back? Even so that seems high...where is all the cost coming from? Magnaflow cats are not that expensive. Magnaflow mufflers can be bought on ebay for less than $150 USD (though shipping may be high, you'd have to check). You just search for magnaflow and the part number.

Yeah its bloody expensive and its full stainless steel from the cats but its only magnaflow mufflers not magnaflow cats :(

Ask them to breakdown the cost for you. Reasonable request given it is bloody high.

As mentioned above canons are going to be really loud and once the novelty wears off i reckon you'll get sick of them. Magnaflow make some really good gear, and from memory you can choose your inlet size, muffler configuration, and tip size. A good quality muffler will be deep yet quiet at cruising speed but still open up when you give it some stick.

The size of the muffler doesn't really have alot to do with it at all, it's more the shape and sound deadending material within the muffler and most ricer cannons have NONE and are obviously going to be way louder than say an oval body muffler with sound deadening material inside it.

^ yes i was referring to the bigger the oval muffler is the better....there are diff type of oval mufflers you can get like brad or chris have (magnaflow) which are skinny oval shapped...obviosuly the bigger the oval shapped muffler the more sound deadening inside ;)

Ah yep, I get you know. I was having visions of BIG ass cannons lol Yeah the body style is probably the biggest contributor, wide-oval body muffers are much quieter and they fit so much better aswell! They tuck under really nice and dont look like coffee cans sticking out the back of the car with that said some people actually like that look though.

thanks for the input guys, im sure i could get sick of having a cannon pretty quickly but ill look around for some magnaflow's and just let them install them it might be easier and hopefully cheaper! who has cannons atm and whats the sounds like?

I think the extra comes from Terry at MCE being fussy, it'd be all be tig welded and smoothed... nice if you tend to go around corners on 2 wheels a lot.

Just go a custom mandrel bent exhaust and stick with nice quality rear mufflers.

I have two carbon fibre 3.5 inch cannons for my race straight through dual 3 inch stepped exhaust and its friggin loud but has nearly zero restriction which is great on the track at consistent high rpm's.

I have two nice polished oval single outlet mufflers for my 2.5 inch street exhaust its still a beefy sound but much quieter and legal with a max db of 92 at the pipe at 3800rpm.

Both of my systems were custom made by a local exhaust shop using mandrel bends and I supplied the mufflers.

LOL I got one of them ricer mufflers with my 88T when I bought it, they are loud as shit compared to an oval body muffler that's packed with high density fibreglass.

Do you know any good suppliers for quality mufflers? because I'd much prefer to bring them what I want instead of paying them outrageous amounts to get the same thing cheaper.

You dont want ricer mufflers like he has, that picture ZDUCTIV posted is excellent! Oval body mufflers FTW! They look 100x better...

It depends on what you are after, A guy who supplies me with oil and a host of other stuff gets nice blingy polished SS 3A Racing ones of which I have two of there 2.5 in outlet ones single exit though and they are very quiet as mentioned above. Here is a pic

They run at around $220 a peice 2.5 inch inlet and pipe outlet with vortex vanes.

Then have the race setup with the dual 3.5 inch CF cannons, friggin loud but for a purpose. NOT recommended for a street car.

All up you are probably looking at around $600 for mufflers (worst case good ones) and around $300 or so for a catback mandrel bent setup in SS pipe. Whole exhaust with good cats and mufflers will set you back around the 2k mark worst case

    Plenty to think about hey

Yeah I think its a smarter idea to source them out myself but im fairly keen on magnaflows but have looked around for any high flow cats as of yet.
