Hey guys, Started the Zed yesterday and about 20 seconds later it started that stupid idle hunting business anyway white smoke starting flowing out the exhaust and it just kept hunting on idle anyway I let her run for another 5 mins and it just didnt stop like the idle just kept hunting and there was still white smoke so i took her for a drive and she was hesitant but seemed to boost alright, im unsure because i drove her the day before and she was Brilliant! ... So what does white smoke mean? any help or info about this would be awesome! Thanks Luke.
If it's a turbo seal, you'll need to rebuild/replace your turbo's eventually which is rather costly. Is it smoke or steam? You could have coolant getting in your system somehow.
What oil are you running?? I ran a Thin oil (5w 50 synthetic) for awhile and it use to smoke a bit but since going to a 15w 50 synthetic its fixed it. Could also be PVC valves.
Condensation... There are many causes to hunting/unstable idle. A common cause is the CTS, do a ECU diagnoses and see if there are any faults (if it is CTS, you would be in safety boost mode).
Im using 15w 50 oil ... If it was a turbo seal wouldn't smoke just come out of the side the turbo seal in gone on? ... she doesnt seem to be in safety boost but i didnt push her to hard when i drove just in acse you know
Good point Jono. Is the white smoke only present when the car is warming up? If it clears once the car has been up to temperature for a few minutes, it is probably just condensation in your exhaust burning off and nothing to worry about. My car did this all the time.
Its worse when you first start the car, but as it warms up the smoke isn't as bad but its when the idle hunts like it will jump between 500 - 1500rpm rapidly when it revs up to 1500rpm lots of smoke comes out then it falls back down and then revs back up and more smoke comes out ... it did that for the whole time i had the car on for
Is your car using water? overheating? Is your car using water? overheating? Bubbles in your radiator/and or oil.. ? might be a head gasket?
White smoke/hunting... Had you been moving the plug on the AFM? I inadvertently did this the other week and managed to re-attach the plug upside down...result, lots of white smoke and engine just 'hunted' it's little head off!! Luckily woke up to what I had done, replaced the plug correctly (matching two 'bars' on plug to two on AFM) and, hey, presto...all good again! Went for a drive and all OK.
hey guys, Just started her up again and took her for another drive no smoke on start up but when im driving under normal condition like not boosting at all i can feel the car hesitating and bits of smoke, tell me if im wrong but i think it may be a vacuum leak i listened for hissing and i think i can hear something down near the drivers side turbo or around that area any ideas? thanks alot for all your help
