    Does anyone know what the paint code is for these dark metallic grey trim bits?
    I've seen them described as 'dark metallic grey' and 'dark charcoal'.
    I'm planning to head to a paint shop tomorrow and see if they can help me with a match but I'm just interested if anyone had that info already.

    From the JDM FSM. The Mirror fender mount colour should be G64-1 (at least my UK spec was).

    Good stuff! That was more info than I'd asked for and all useful! I just had a look in the shed because I'd forgotten about the mirror mounts. Yes, that's the colour of the headlight insert and presumably the same as your UK spec (the car I'm working on is JDM).
    I had also thought until now that the front bar was a non metallic grey. Now that I've had a proper look I realized it's just a little dilapidated and that hides the subtle flake.

    Just one more question - how did you come to own a UK zed?

    Ok, so I just answered my own question. Living in the UK is a very good reason for owning a UK spec car. :oops:

    The reason I was asking is because I own a Z that isn't Aus or JDM and I'm really not sure where it's been imported from. It's LHD, manual, and has a speedo in mile and kilometres.

    I'd like to find the original VIN Nissan gave it but at the moment I don't have it.

    The one I have is in this format: 6U9000GCZ325xxxxx which is an Australian created one, like you would do for a vehicle that never had a VIN, or an individually manufactured vehicle. I'm thinking that the original importer/owner in Queensland may have done something like this to be able to import the car prior to the grey import scheme, or to register a modified vehicle, or something like that, but it's all just a guess. Registration in a different state was straightforward, no flags have come up and I've owned it for a long time.

    So yeah, maybe it's from the US and been converted to LHD. Someone else once suggested it may have been from a country where RHD vehicles are sold but still uses imperial. The seats are different (factory velour) from the rest of the upholstery (factory tweed), powered on both sides too, only the driver's is powered in my JDM. A real odd car. I should have a chat to the previous owner one day, see where he got it from.

    Your factory chassis code starts from gcz, and by the sounds of it you have a series 2 model which came out with velour interior.

    US cars are LHD. Is the car a 2+0 or 2+2? The GCZ32 string in the VIN is the model code is for a JDM 2+2, but as
    you say the VIN has been made up in Australia so may have simply been included/used to represent a "Z32" model.
    The normal JDM VIN for a GCZ32 car would be of the form GCZ32-5XXXXX (with no prefix characters like you have).

    Has the original VIN stamped on the firewall also been altertered/removed?

    It is not unknown in the UK for owners of JDM cars to swap the KPH speedos for UK spec MPH speedos. So that
    is another way your car could have one.

    I eventually got around to checking the number on the firewall and plugging it into the website here:
    https://nissan.epc-data.com/
    That confirmed what I already knew about the car:
    Frame / Series GCZ32 / Z32
    roof KZ (T-bar roof )
    engine VG30DTT (3000 gasoline twincam turbo )
    seat 4S (4-seater )
    Production month 09.1989
    grade NASHI (300ZX)
    transmission MT (manual transmission )
    Interior color G
    Body color AG2

    But no luck with the model code:
    KRGZ32JS3HF6
    I can decode it up until the last 4 characters, which could be anything. They don't correspond to anything listed on that GTR website so just as a guess maybe it's a JDM car and those characters correspond to some Japan-only features.

    I hit a wall with the colour codes in the graphic. The descriptions don't fit what I have anyhow and I'm thinking they might be a more recent colour scheme than the 1990 model cars I have.
    The only conclusion that I've reached is that my bumper strip might be best reproduced with G64 Matte Grey (available as it's fairly common) with a semi-gloss clear over it.
    I may be onto something after a lot of browsing on the web though. I found this on xenonzcar.com
    "In 1987 the Z31 received a face lift and this included new rounded bumpers, headlights, hood, and lower body trim. The trim on these models were painted in the Nissan #463 paint code Dark Grey Metallic paint. This includes the wheels on the 1987 turbo models."
    So I looked up the colour and the online swatches do look like it might be the right colour. So maybe it was carried over onto the early Z32 model trims? I'll go and check it out with the paint guy anyhow and see what he thinks.

    What's interesting is that if it's factory LHD, it should have an L in the vin ie. "KRLGZ32" so is it possible that it's been converted to LHD?

    The vin converts as a Jap-spec vin should:

    J = GL/VS trim
    S = Twin Turbo
    3 = ?? unknown
    H = ABS
    F6 = F6 option code, can't translate all I can tell is no cruise control.

    Definitely not a late car, and is an early one, factory tweed interior and sounds like someone has fitted two later model velour power seats (depending on which seat has lumbar support and the levers up the top for rear passengers will determine if they're LHD or RHD velour seats). It very likely wouldn't have been registered in Aus in LHD configuration so maybe it was exported at some point to an LHD country.

    If you want to post up some photos this might help shed some light with other identifiable traits on the body?

    Yeah, it's the 3, F and 6 that I couldn't find anything about.
    I made a typo too, when I was talking about what drive it is I meant that it's RHD, I just typed the opposite for some reason.
    I agree with you though, the simplest explanation is that someone just replaced the seats and the instrument cluster.

    Is it a 180kmh speedo?

    My mistake I think, the fender mirror should be fender aerial (the parking aid).

    It goes up to 260kmh (small numbers on inside), 160mph (larger numbers on outside)

    Like in this US market cluster (only to 240kph though)?

    Aha! I never thought to check what US clusters look like since I just assumed they wouldn't have kmh on them at all.
    Yes, it looks just like that one (there is a stroke after the 240kmh mark that I take to be 260kmh).

    I'm still scratching my head about this one though. I don't know what the parking aid would be.

    IB ?????

    It's like a motorised radio antenna set into the left corner of the front bumper. You can raise it when you park so that you know where that corner of the car is.
