Hello, I make it a habit to replace critical bits like timing belts on cars with unknown to me histories. The question is should I also replace the hydraulic belt tensioner while I'm at it? I don't want to introduce any issues unnecessarily by futzing with it, but by the same token I don't want my new timing belt to skip because the tensioner was iffy. Or maybe the tensioners are basically indestructible?

Km's unknown (battery is out ATM) oil on dipstick looks very clean.

    Opinions appreciated.

Yes, definitely change the tensioner, crank pully and water pump/ thermostat.

Objectively speaking there is no service interval for the hydraulic tensioner assembly - the procedure is “inspect”.

That being said my preference would be to replace every time.

I can do you a kit with

    - timing belt
    - tensioner assembly
    - idler bearings
    - cam and crank seals
    - drive belts
    - thermostat
    - water pump
    - bypass hoses
    - VTC springs
    - o rings

Ie everything that should be replaced while it’s apart for $675 shipped from Sydney. Combination of gates USA and OEM components shoot me a message if you’re keen.
