Z32 Haltech boost control solenoid question

    Hi there,

    I'm in the process of wiring up a Haltech boost control device. Question I have is whether it is OK to use the factory wastegate control connector (say RH side) and rewire them to the new unit.

    Haltech requires +12V input and DPO output. According to the wiring diagram I can see one factory wire goes to ECU PIN25 (DPO). Not sure if the other wire is +12V power source (can't find any reference anywhere).

    The boost control will be ECU (Elite 2000) controlled . Sorry I am a newbie and very much appreciated for any advice.

    If your talking about the factory boost control L-R solenoids you won't be able to use them, they work with the knock sensor to lower boost pressure when knock is detected(drops boost pressure from 9psi to 7psi safety boost)buy opening the waste gates. Im not familiar with haltech controllers, but most b/c's buy pass the stock control system altogether.

    Thank you so much for the information mate. Bugger I can't use the factory wiring :(

    I bought the wiring harness adaptor when purchasing the Haltech ECU with the aim to simplify the whole wiring process. Haltech has only made several spare auxiliary connections available (https://www.haltech.com/product/ht-151259-elite-2000-nissan-300zx-z32/#) and none of them supports DPO. Guess I will have to call Haltech to figure out the way forward.

    You probably have the right bits to set the haltech ecu up, the harness adaptor should mate with the existing ecu wiring connector, example.. remove the neg battery terminal ,unplug remove the stock ecu, grab the adaptor harness, one end will fit into the stock side connector, the other into the haltech. My feeling is the control solenoid will also have to be connected to the haltech ecu and to a controlling interface. Did it come with an interface for setting it up? Did the haltech come with a tune installed. ?

    You are right - the DPO3 input on Haltech adaptor harness goes straight to the stock ECU connect PIN25 (wastegate control). Haltech provides base map to set up close loop B/C therefore no additional electronic control module is required.

    So in theory, whatever wire connects to PIN25 must be the factory DPO input. According to the wiring diagram this connects to both LH&RH side of wastegate solenoid connector.

    This should take care of the DPO input which is responsible for sending a ground signal from ECU. What I am not certain is whether the second wire on the factory wastegate connector is a +12V wire. If anyone knows that will be awesome.

    Given the 'plug n play' nature of this adaptor kit, it is difficult to make adjustments without taking things apart.

    Are... so its a piggy back boost controller, not a stand alone ecu with boost control features? The stock Nissan ecu can controll boost, but not like an a/m boost controller, it will drop the boost- but only if the knock sensor detects knock. So its not adjustable and is a safety feature Nissan built in. For my purposes I removed both stock boost cut solenoids from the engine and all the hoses. Some don't remove the stock solenoids, for engine safety reasons. Some have found that buy leaving the stock solenoids in place boost controll becomes problematic.. When you connect the haltech soleniod vaccum hoses to the wastegate actuators you'll see what I mean.

    You should be able to repurpose the wiring for the stock boost solenoids to your new boost control solenoid since you're not using a factory ECU.

    You certainly can wire an aftermarket solenoid via the factory harness - it's just a pair of wires with pins at either end. You just need to make sure that the corresponding pin is assigned accordingly. I have done this quite a few times with Link plug in ECUs and new harnesses; it's a pretty tidy way to go about it. I presume you are using the plug in patch harness for the elite series ECU? Best way to do a fairly stealthy install in my opinion.

    Thank you Rob and IB. That's great news :)

    Yes I am using the patch harness. It's super easy to use but creates a challenge when you need to make provisions for other stuff given everything is pre-wired.

    I guess my next steps are:

    1. De-pin the factory connector and work out which wire is the DPO signal
    2. Run a +12V wire from the spare auxiliary connector
    3. Use those two wires to connect to a new plug

    If I missed anything please let me know.
